For anyone who's wondering, my sister is playing the piece "Hanging Gardens" in this video. Thanks for all your kind comments!

On my piano the middle pedal is a practice pedal. It puts a layer of felt over the hammers and it makes it sound soft.

The pedal on the right increases the tempo, the one in the middle decreases the tempo, and the one on the left is for when you want to change keys without grinding. You only get that pedal on manual pianos though, automatic pianos only need 2 pedals.

I have an upright piano at my house but my sostenuto pedal works differently than a grand piano

I just realized only the sustain pedal works on my piano.

My middle and left pedals are tied together and they only push all the hammers forward with a bar behind the hammers.

A better way to say the middle peddle is that it sustains the notes you are holding when you put your foot down on the pedal

My piano functions differently.
Right pedal - Strings fall off
Middle pedal - Brake the pedal in half
Left pedal - Wooden parts begin to fall off😕

So, I have an upright piano and I’ve been trying to figure out what the middle pedal does for FOREVER! When I searched it up it said that it will only sustain the bass and not the treble but when I tried that it sustained both. When I play with the middle pedal it is kinda similar to the sustain pedal but softer? It kinda sounds like fairies? The piano is a Schafer & Sons. Does anyone know what the middle pedal does on my piano??

The sostenuto pedal does not sustain the notes in the Bass. What it does is sustain any keys being played when it is held down 😊

I always wondered about the soft pedal. I never understood why it would shift like that.

Doesn’t the sostenuto pedal only damp selected keys and not the entire bass? For example, you press down a key, press down on the pedal, and then only those keys that you press damp later on until you remove the pedal
