just to give everyone some context again on the Singapore telcos broadband plans offering
lowest end is 2-3Gpbs
some provide mid range at 5-6Gpbs (few bucks more than the previous plan)
max is 10Gbps, cheapest can go at around 25USD

interested to know how much internet costs in your country!

Great video Alex. As a homeowner looking to renew my ISP, I appreciate this video & the consideration points here. Forget those naysayers & don't let them get to you, haters gonna hate when they see others doing well

It is worth mentioning that for newer HDB in Singapore, it comes pre-installed with LAN port in all room, so ideal to run ethernet backhual for mesh system.

POV: majority do not need 10GBPS unless you have a large number of users.

Livestreamers are better off spending the extra money on better video encoders(GPU). 3GBPs is plenty. Twitch only lets you stream in 1080p anyway.

Using which metrics, did you determine that 3Gbps is only good for 1-2 people, 5Gbps for 3-4, and 10Gbps for more?
How did you decide that? A 300- 600Mbps download is usually enough for even 8K streaming from multiple clients at the same time.
Video calls, sharing the screen, watching videos—all of that, on multiple clients in 1080p-1440p—don't require more than 300Mbps of internet speed.

You're misleading people into buying expensive ISP tariffs and equipment.
For most people, a 300Mbps/100Mbps - 1Gbps/100-250Mbps tariff is more than enough. Anything else will require a special need, like exposing and NAS server to the internet for remote access, for example.

6 mths ago I switched from $39 from m1 1gbps to viewquest for $39.90 for 10gbps. For the same price I'm getting better network so far no complaints. Be it overkill anot, I'm enjoying the high speed network lol

Honestly even as a sweaty try hard, I feel a 5G wan is overkill already. You may get a bigger bandwidth and perhaps better qos, but how often will you saturate the wan line even on a 1G. Also, I think getting your bgp routing customised is better than getting a huge Wan. I cannot see why typical or most home users will benefit from 10G.

in NYC, 2.5 Gbps is max and lower end is 300mbps. I doubt many needs 5gbps to each pc. It's more of having more devices that will add up to 5gbs.

@AlexTeo your videos have been informative and accurate so far, but this time round it's just wrong. No one needs a 5 or 10 Gbps line for home networks unless they are running home servers or accessing their NAS outside. Would have been better sharing how to get a more stable connection through wired LAN or explaining how latency affects gaming, and which ISP provides the best latency, or how much bandwidth is required for normal online activities like streaming youtube/Netflix/Disney+ at 1080p/2K/4K per user and multiplying it by the number of users in the house. Not to mention the routing requirements of a better router.

Hi Alex, can you share which mesh device r u using?

Thanks for the video. I think the internet cable that in the wall should be old with low speed, how you change it? If don’t change it what is the options. I bought Linksys mx4200 to improve my network, with wifi 7 now, I have to throw all the mx4200, how should I redevelop the whole network.

Nowadays wifi technology is very good, so a wifi mesh is actually good enough for hdb flats.

I saw your other video and is planning to get Asus XT8 wifi 6 router for my new BTO. I see that the router does not have a 10gb WAN/LAN ports. Does that mean if i get a 5gb/10gb ISP plan, the router will be my bottleneck?

Wow! I pay $80 a month for AT&T fiber (1GB speed). Rural areas here are limited to satellite or point-to-point connections. The US is way behind many other countries.

Any WiFi 7 usb / usb c adapter you recommend to use with starhub 10Gbps for Mac?

Personally, whenever I travel overseas and use the often slower and less reliable wifi, it makes me really miss Singapore’s network. So, seeing people claim that 500Mbps is enough is quite amusing to me. Once you’ve experienced the luxury of a better network, ‘enough’ simply doesn’t cut it anymore. Plus, considering how affordable it is in Singapore to enjoy high-speed internet at a low cost, I don’t see why anyone would settle for slower speeds. 😂

I doubt 99% of homeowners can tell the difference between 500mbps and 10gbps.

For wired mesh in new HDB BTO, i could just use make use of the Data Point?

Hey bud - legitimate question. Whats AI-Driven mesh? Eg. Deco's are whole-home mesh but they do market them as "AI-Driven mesh". What are your thoughts on TP-Link EasyMesh?

Currently on 10gbps plan, but my house is already all wired backhauled via Deco X20. When I got my BE805 from the plan I just hardwired the 10gbps to my desktop which supports it but I turned the WiFi off as I don't want to congest the network on my main deco SSID.

Have been mulling on getting another node of BE805 or even the cheaper BE550 Pro to use as satellites to replace my existing mesh network. Thoughts?
