The Myth of Tangier UNCOVERED! 🇲🇦 (Tanger)

Tangier aka Tanger. A timeless myth. A place for those who wish to escape the norms to an alluring promise of freedom.

I want to see if there’s any truth to it, and if there’s any of that city remaining, if it ever existed.

This is the city that from the 50s to the 70s was a refuge for some of the most important authors of the Beat Generation. The group of writers who influenced American culture over two to three decades following World War II. Their works explored and explicitly depicted fringes of the human condition and experiments with drugs and sex.

Paul Bowles really started it all. He moved to Tangier in 1947 and remained until his death in 1999. For most, if they knew of Tangier at all, it was through his writing. In his writings he created a vision of Tangier that has persisted to this day.

The city where William Burroughs… the Gentleman Junkie and elder statesman of the Beat Generation, came in 1953 and later wrote his surrealist masterpiece, Naked Lunch.

We'll follow in the footsteps of the Beat authors, Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones, Anthony Bourdain and many other celerbaties, artists and spies.

Chris, I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I'm a very anxious traveler and the first place I went to outside the US in March this year was Morocco (Marrakech and Rabat), which included the 3-day trip in the Sahara. Your review there was SPOT ON! It made me feel so much more comfortable having watched your dedicated review (twice...haha) I even was able to tell the other people in my bus that we could go to whatever restaurant we wanted and they appreciated the tip. We also were able to say goodbye to the interesting people we met before we got separated on the last overnight--which again you warned us about. Your videos are making me want to go back to Morocco.
