preview_player
Показать описание
Italy is famous for being the birthplace of the Renaissance which saw the flourishing of art, architecture and classical learning that soon spread across Europe. To some this marks a potential end of the medieval era and the beginning of the Early Modern Era but given how important the Renaissance was why did it specifically begin in Italy? To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary.

Funniest episode ever! The self critique joke, Birmingham being left out, James Bisonette appearing on the plaquette. Amazing episode!

"Brought to you by James Bissonette" got me.

The slowing delivery while realizing the animation is two dimensional is by far the funniest thing I have seen on this channel. Well done!

0:10 but that’s your channel’s iconic charm

Finally Mr. Bissonette gets the recognition he deserves for bankrolling so many famous historical events

It started in Italy because the requirements to get the renaissance institution is to be in Italy and have at least 20 development in a province.

The Fall of the Byzantines is actually a great parallel to how those Roman ideas/texts got lost in the first place. When the Western Roman Empire fell to the "barbarians", prominent citizens who were of value and could manage to flee did so by fleeing to the Eastern Roman Empire, which was already Roman and had those ideas/similar texts in Greek. So the west lost a lot of value and valuable thinkers. Then with time came peace and with peace came increased artistry and thinking, and then when the Eastern Roman Empire started falling the same people of value migrated again, but back to Italy where things had calmed down.

This is by far my favorite history channel which is saying a lot. The humor combined with the way the information is presented, always concise and to the point, makes it stand out above everyone else. Dear History Matters person, you would make an amazing teacher if you already aren't one :D

Thank you for the amazing content and as usual and keep up the great videos!

I love how meta History Matters was in this vid here. Your 2D art/animation still stand out among the other history themed channels tho

In line with idea #3 I would note the contributions of Leonardo of Pisa (not Da Vinci). He’s more commonly known as Fibonacci. His father sent him to learn math from the traders in North Africa and his book Libre Abbaci is the entry of algebraic reasoning into Europe. Within a generation those Florentine bankers and merchants explode because of the revolution in book keeping efficiency.

God I EFFING LOVE THIS CHANNEL. I want you to know you’re half the reason I went and got a history degree in my 30s after not being in education for 15 years. Merry Christmas 🎄
