Did Hamstring Affect ACL TEAR? Doctor Reviews Klay Thompson Knee Injury

preview_player

Klay Thompson had to leave game 6 of the NBA finals after suffering a knee injury. He had sustained a previous hamstring strain to that same leg, and the hamstring plays an important role in knee health and protecting things like the ACL.

I'll review the injury and explain why key structures could be injured based on the mechanism, and why the controversy surrounding the medical care of the Golden State Warriors could just get worse.

Main point here is to understand how the hamstring provides stability to the knee and can help protect the ACL. Based on the mechanism and prior injury, I think ACL and/or MCL would be concerns here, but we'll see when we get official word.

Do you think he should have been playing game 6 or will this just cause more controversy with injury management from the Warriors?

Something he didn’t mention. The hamstrings are responsible for the eccentric phase of jumping which is landing. If the jumper’s muscles are not strong enough to brace the body upon landing. Excessive stress is placed on the structural components like ligaments and tendons. -PT

Well, once again, getting real information is the key to understanding injuries and injury prevention. AS it turns out I saw a report that Thompson injured his ACL. All of these things are really helping me as a grandfather to six children from the ages of 2 to 12 years old. I am truly going to make sure their coaches subscribe to your channel. Thank you.

I was wondering this same thing when he got injured. I play football and our strength and conditioning coach tells us this all the time (to strengthen the hamstring) so we don’t ruin our chances at getting a college scholarship from an ACL tear.

Did you do a video on Looney's injury? I am rather concerned that he has been out there playing with that.
