My uncle fought Roy back in the 80s for a spot on the Olympic team. My uncle said the way he uses his shoulder as a shield was genius.

@Tony Jeffries
Hey I’m a boxer (I’m 13) but I hurt my foot badly and I’ve had to stop boxing for a session. It’s sad, I watch you every time I see you. I look up to you.

My foot is better now (kinda) so I can go back to boxing :) 🥊 anyway.
Thanks for reading this all the way. If you did you’re a legend.
Thanks!

Philly shell requires tremendous reflexes and foot work to work beyond novices as opponents. Once you start fighting real professionals, you also have to be able to read body language masterfully to anticipate your opponent. Only then can you capitalize fully on the full vision the Philly shell allows you.

I trained under Victor valle Jr, who trained Oleg Maskayev out of the bx. Philly shell was definitely a style that many sub-styles were built off of as the ease of movement and visibility carries fighters further than holding hands up round after round. It's just common sense. Which uses less energy, which has more intertia. Find similar application in wing Chun, intercept and deflect.

I use the philly shell alot when I fight but the only thing throwing me off is the other hand I put it on my other cheek for more defends and it's never blocked my vision

Good martial arts... I'm surprised people doesn't speak about Philly shell. It works well with front and round house kici

George Foreman used that same defense when he was older and I remember watching and wondering how he got away with it.
