Ben Kingsly is the only man I've seen who could actually master Gandhi's personality.

No matter which book was being read, so long as God was being worshipped... If only they understood this... and then listened to what God asked of them.

Martin Sheen said that the scene by the seaside in Porbandar (I think?) was special as there was this connection of both he and Kingsley being totally absorbed in their element that even reading their lines - they would only remember what to say after the other said their line.

"...As long as God Worshipped." People always forgot about this. Religion means to pray for their gods, greetfull of their wisdom.

What Gods says about what todo and not to, therefor its war act agains your enemies, but in the name of god not anarchist, or its to bring the truth to your opponents, but remember always pray the Gods you worshipping, so we fullfill his commandments.

“He’s going to March to the sea and make salt, ” and that’s the one thing that really pissed the British off.

Can someone please tell where in India this place is (or at least the filming location of year of the movie ...) when Mahamtma and Kasturba Gandhi declared their love for each other again since their childhood (just like actor sir Ben Kingsley and actress Rohini Hattangadi also did for their acting work in the movie)? I would like to visit that place one day in the future in India where Mahatma and Kasturba declared their love on that place (don't ask me in what year they really did that once, because that I don't know). So can anybody please tell me the name of that place (or even that river)?

the later part i can understand your point of view but it is important to note that the Roman empire was above all practical. mass slave rebellions were indeed put down with brutal force, but a movement such as ghandhi's would have seemed peculiar to them. ultimately it would not have had much of an effect since the Roman empire was so vast and diverse it could simply import slaves from elsewhere if one group passively resisted. if necessary they might have come to an accord though.

actually early christians were avid protestors of roman rule, particularly through nonviolence such as refusing military service and denying the divinity of the emperors and eventually christianity became the state religion. your understanding of history is rather poor i'm afraid. try studying the events a bit more thoroughly.

@thuzan117: But you are aware that the Roman state was back than quite in a mess for Cato the Elder would have whipped out the Christian sect for the least of all their dear offences! While most Christians did pay taxes, worship the proper state Gods and serve in the military; as you may learn from the very words of the Christian historians in late antiquity. But still: Any Roman magistrate would have had Gandhi executed for such a prank like the defying of the salt tax.

It’s quite hard to tell who did disgrace themselves here more: The Indians for thus losing lordship over India or the Indians by thus driving out the English; for normally countries are to be delivered from foreign oppression by great battle victories like the Scottish one at Bannockburn. But to be driven out of India by protests, hunger strikes and tax boycotts proves that the English were mentally incompetent to rule, for such a thing could never ever happen to imperial folk like the Romans.
