In Australia winnings are tax exempt. If you win $800k in the lottery or a game show you keep all of it.

Taxes are ridiculous. My coworker works for commission. He made a little over 15, 000 in commission but after tax it was around $7, 500.. sickening

Germany is pretty different here: if you need to do something for the money, like in game Shows or a quiz, it's tax-free.
If you only buy a ticket, like for the lottery, your ticket has 19% sales tax on it, but when you win it's tax-free, since the ticket was already taxed when purchasing it.

In Canada winnings are not taxed because once you invest it you will have to pay tax on the income it generates. That's more fair in my opinion.
