Why You Should Be More Aggressive in Soccer

If you’re not aggressive you would be involved in the play, you will lose your individual battles, you will struggle defensively, and you won’t score as many goals.

Aggressive soccer players take the game! They don’t let the game happen. Aggressive players seize the opportunity. They don’t let the match slip away.

When you play soccer aggressively you make an impact. Even if your technical skills are lacking and your tactically unaware, you can still make an impact on the game. Simply through your aggressive style of play.

How To Get More Aggressive in Soccer

First, you need to switch your mentality. Being shy and timid is cute when you’re 5 years old. After that it doesn’t serve you well in life. It certainly doesn’t make you effective on the soccer field.

If you say things like:

“I’ve always been shy.”
“I’m just not aggressive.”
“I don’t know how to get involved.’

Understand, these are not your genetic traits. They are patterns that have been imprinted on you by your parents, coaches, teammates, and experiences. Someone told you, you were that way. Or you played that way for one season and you’ve adopted that identity.

Just as you adopted that identity of being shy and timid. You can create a new identity starting today. You are a beast. A soccer machine. A player who gives 100% effort and intensity. You play aggressive soccer every time you step on the pitch. You are a winner. Who doesn’t get pushed around, seizes opportunity, fights for your position, and always gives their best.

Ideas are nothing. Implementation is everything.

You now have a better understanding of how to be more aggressive in soccer, what it looks like, and how to train in a way that promotes this style of play.

But the most important factor is that you make a genuine effort to apply these principles in your training and matches. You don’t have to be the most aggressive player on the field in your very next session. Although, if you want to that would be amazing!
