Oblivion movie review

Tom Cruise is one of a crew of two tasked with the maintenance of automated drones in a post apocalyptic Earth. Jeremy reviews the Sci-Fi drama "Oblivion".

What a piece of art.  Visuals and Music were out of the world!
This movie touched me unlike any other. Makes you marvel at human creativity and wonder - 'what did i just watch now'. 

The movie showcases loneliness that many of us experience in our lives.  Jack is living with Vicka but he is lonely as she does not share anything of note. Jack roams the wasteland (Fallout 3 and this movie tie in well) alone, goes to his cabin alone,  works alone. When he is at home, he is lonely.
People who feel this loneliness in thier lives, can relate to this movie. 

And this song (Procol Harum - A Whiter Shale Of Pale), captures that mood so beautifully.  

Other feelings that Jack Tech 49 experiences apart from loneliness.  
'Confusion' especially when Julia arrives!
Then there was the feeling of Horror when he realises that he is not who he thinks he is....
And then the feeling of profound sadness when he knows that he cannot 'have' Julia as he stands near the lake and contemplates his fate.

But then Julia accepts him for his feelings are real and they spend a beautiful night together.

The movie is a tidal wave of feelings!

It also makes u ask a lot of questions- If Jack Tech 49 is not himself, then does he have a soul? if no, where are these feelings coming from? It cant be from just memories is it?

Ah ! that is why I love sci-fi. :)

This is Classic Sci-Fi that promotes introspection and thought.

Oblivion has absolutely amazing symbolism and a deeper social commentary than on surface value. Especially the part with the illuminati like triangle saying "I am your God". This movie is one of my favourite sci-fis

I really liked this film- I found the plot clever and I followed it all the way through- I didn't really get bored at any point. I do agree though that the surprise was ruined with the trailer. The drones, GCI, scenery- all of that was fantastic!

i just watched this movie on hbogo knowing it borrowed  key elements from one of my fav movies "moon".boy this movie is heavily underrated. I loved this movie. and that soundtrack!!! how can u call this movie boring?? i was so intrigued and there's lot of character dev. I think scavs had a lot of part in the movie and removing them would have been bad. I loved the movie.. well its me.. not sure evey1 can have the same taste in things..

Honestly this movie was pretty damn good, I wasn't expecting much going in, the reviews were kind of shitty and didn't do very well at the box office. That being said I really liked it. The story, effects, and actors were great!

I think critics, including Mr Jahns, have been unduly harsh on this film. It's spectacular from start to finish. Easily one of the best movies of the year for me (and yes, I've seen most of Jeremy's top 10 list...).

I disagree with you. I loved the movie and all the twists and the clever way the story is proposed. I think it was a masterpiece, but some things were not as important as others to convey the story, but as a whole it was great.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It felt fresh even though it does seem to borrow things from other sci-fi movies. Tom Cruise  gives a great performance. Visuals were spectacular. I loved the design of everything and the desolate earth which strangely looks more beautiful being desolate. Overall it was a very compelling movie but a bit inconsistent at times, certainly one the average viewer would have to watch maybe twice to understand plot twists and so on. Soundtrack was mezmerising. Ending and payoff felt satisying especially the explosion, damn haven't seen an explosion that cool looking since angels and demons. "fuck you Sally".

I loved the movie, and i must say if it hadnt got its soundtrack right it would have been a tiny worse. The soundtrack was just fucking stunning, M38 are brilliant.

Omitting the best part of the movie being the dive into the picture and how the director manages to have us be into the movie with his study of imagery, lights, and exquisite soundtrack.. Well that's just not doing it justice.

Sure, the plot could have been better, but it remains a must-see for the viewing/hearing experience of the first 45 minutes.
