CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Lloyd (John Cusack) uses a meaningful song to call Diane (Ione Skye) back to him.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Ione Skye plays Diane Court, high-school valedictorian on the verge of heading to England on a prestigious scholarship. This is especially thrilling to Diane's divorced father, James (John Mahoney), who has always shared a special relationship with the girl, less father/daughter than friend/friend. When Diane begins dating irresponsible army brat Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack), her father despairs at her choice of an "underachiever." Pressured by her dad to break off the relationship, Diane spends the rest of the summer being pursued by the lovestruck Lloyd, who does everything he can to win her back. Diane finally realizes there's more to life than perfection when her sainted father comes under the scrutiny of the IRS.

Lloyd holding up the boombox is probably among the most famous movie shots of all time.

One of the most iconic movie scenes ever filmed.

The expression on his face is so sweet. You can tell he's thinking, "Is she listening? Is she there? Does she even care about me anymore? Because even if she doesn't, I still love her." Everyone deserves a Lloyd Dobler in their life.

He probably had to put like $25 worth of D cell batteries in that thing to get it to play without a power cord.

I just love how it zooms in on his face, and you can see how determined he was. This scene barely 2 minutes long, with no dialogue but is still so powerful.

How come John Cusack can stand outside his crush’s window holding a boombox playing this song and win her heart, but when I stand outside my crush’s window playing music, all I win is a night in jail and a restraining order???

one time my friend asked me to come over & watch this movie w her. we were watching it, and a couple minutes after this scene played she told me to look out the window. my best friend was standing in her yard holding a boom box that was playing this song over his head, and I ran to him... he asked me to homecoming, and we’ve been dating ever since. literally epic. love him so much

Still get the chills as John Cusack holds up that BOOMBOX and serenaded his girl and he's really groveling and really hoping his girl will respond to his really putting his pride ego and heart on the line by humbling himself and giving a last ditch effort of winning over her affections and she would love his gesture of love

I saw Peter Gabriel play at Madison Square Garden Monday night Sept 18 2023. When he played this song a girl near the front row had a pretend boombox made out of cardboard and such. She handed it to Peter and he raised it over his head while the band played this song. Was a great moment (which I filmed and will post on you tube sometime in the next days).

Cusack is strong as hell to hold a boom box with 75lbs of batteries over his head for that long.

What's cuter? John Cusack professing his love through a boombox or him standing in the rain?? Dream man.

This was one of the most amazing movies. Loved when she confronted her father about his stealing, how she had chosen him to live with because he had told her she could say anything to him.

It was so a revolutionary concept and still is tell me what you think and and feel without fear of punish, or shame or judgement I will hear you because you matter. Whoa that fight they had when he showed her that he meant " You tell me what I am comfortable hearing about you and your life, you can't tell me what you really think about me I'm still your father."

Just Epic moment of realization of how she had been played by her father, and that he was lying and stealing from his residents and he firmly thought she had no right to be angry and disgusted by his behavior, to silently support him .

Wow it was one the best scene's in film... AWESOME MOVIE!!! Not preachy or making anyone into a cliche just showing the flaws of relationships .

I was dying laughing when this was recreated in Deadpool 2. By far one of the most iconic scenes in film history

Peter Gabriel wasn’t too convinced to let Camerone Crowe use this song for the culmination scene of “Say Anything”, until he saw a rough cut of the movie and was sold. I don’t know how Dianne didn’t run to the window and give Lloyd a break. In any case, I was Lloyd to a degree, lost, emotional, funny but not the smartest guy in the room. It worked out for me and I found my Dianne. I watched this movie over 15 times in the AMC8 theatre in Tacoma, Washington.
