China has settled its borders with several countries, but not with India. This is because China wants to continue to hold disputes as leverage. Speaking to ThePrint's National & Strategic Affairs Editor Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Partner of FutureMap Parag Khanna says China's need for disputes as leverage should also be seen in the context of its strategic relationship with Pakistan, on the basis of the logic that both are threatened by India. In this exciting conversation facilitated by The Quorum Club, Parag Khanna dismisses the idea of China taking over the world, explaining how and why it won't happen.

India will be watched closely, if we emerge strong then we will be leading by example against China. If we come out as losers then we shall be turned into a cautionary tale. Winning this time is more important than 1962

Sorry, but this 'host' is doing a sub-par job. There's a difference between command of the language, and command of the subject matter. You have a reasonably decent resource available to you, and instead of asking good questions, I see silly infantile naivete. Do better.

Good talk, interesting, not sure why India has so many border issues or other issues with basically all of its neighbors?

In 70 years all indian PMs failed to patch up Pakistan, how are you even imagining that it would be possible now ?

when the neighbors are showing weakness, china will take full advantage and it dont follow any rule of law. Chinese only respect people/countrries with military power. if india dont stand up to aggressive china now, india will continuoslly loose land, respect

When the interviewer says" Indians claim galwan valley belongs to them " It indicates that the territory is under contention. It is not under contention . It belongs to India and it is a fact . Chinese dont have claim over it . period . Its like saying India claims Arunachal Pradesh as their own ... Language nuances matter. If we start introducing doubt about ownership in our own language then why would you expect the rest of the world to follow ? These phrases get picked up during times such as these and then you have CNN and the international media saying the same thing . I would request that interviewer stop doing that .

Protagonists in America wanting to join OBOR should instead offer similar projects to countries needing it by American, European capital, with labor from third world countries and this will diminish China's influence in check.

India doesn't treat it's own people nicely. There is injustice with DALITS, low caste Hindus, Muslims etc. How can you expect that it would treat it's small neighbours nicely. India is a bully and a coward. India simply doesn't have what it takes to be a great or powerful country. Hindu religion and culture always keeps it down. Brahmins think that he is superior to other fellow Indians. It is the attitude that will keep India always poor. I am not surprised by the fact that South Asia is the poorest region in the world, because of Indian cultural influence.

Whenever china occupies some territory of India then India will have to occupy other territory of on the other side of LAC so that india has something to bargain with.

Very naive and convoluted thinking about joining something with the intention of undermining it. That’s not smart or practicable.

I don't think India believes in a 'sphere of influence'. As a good neighbor, India must build many more soft bridges to other South Asian countries through people-to-people connections. Travel, cultural exchange, educational exchanges + learn and teach languages + make the COVID video conferencing that Shri Modi did a few weeks ago routine and not a special event, the same way Europe and America routinely engage with each other without much fanfare. Bonus is that even in normal circs. you don't have to cross an ocean to go visit.

China is loosing nothing. If Chinese are not assertive then they will be more prosperous economically as they were in last few decades. Now the west want to stop that growth on any cost. The Chinese assertion is best strategy in times when surrounding by West using India etc

Both India and China are big countries with great civilizations. Even though there were disputes and conflicts, the two nations could set aside the differences and work together on many issues. On the other hand, India should be careful about being used by the USA as the US commerce department just rejected the India-USA FTA that India desperately needs. Furthermore, Ford is pulling out of India. The problem is that America is pursuing the USA-first policy and will throw anyone under the bus to preserve its own interest. The withdrawal of US military force from Afghanistan while leaving India totally isolated is another proof. As Modi outlined his plan for the Afghanistan in the BRICKS meeting, India should join the One Belt One Road project (see Dr. Parag Khanna’s presentation in the link below) to be connected to Afghanistan instead of joining the Quad 4. It would help India to regain the influence over Afghanistan and it would be Win-Win for everyone around central Asia. Furthermore, India should join RCEP to take advantage of the rise of Asia as described by Dr. Khanna. Grow the economy and bring good life to every Indian people.
