F-15EX Takes On 5th Generation Fighters

In today's story we are looking forward to the return of the great and terrible F-15, now in the F-15EX version.

F-15EX Eagle II is a large-scale modernization project for F-15E Strike Eagle fighters, implemented by Boeing in the early 2020s.

The history of the project begins with the confrontation between the American fighters of the 4th and 5th generations. At first, everyone thought that the F-22 and F-35 would completely replace the old jets, becoming the basis of the US Air Force fleet. However, the cease of Raptor production and problems with the development of Lightnings forced the military to think about extending the service of the F-15. However, basic models such as the F-15C / D and F-15E are quickly becoming obsolete both morally and physically. To solve this problem, it was decided to launch the production of widely modernized fighters, which were named F-15EX Eagle II.

This task was successfully solved and now new machines are already being delivered to the US Air Force and several other countries. It looks like the grandfather from the 1970s has every chance to see the middle of the 21st century.

As an Army Vet, the F4 is still a pretty plane. Still holds records, during Viet Nam one F4 pushed another damaged F4 with it nose. One F15 flew and landed after one wing was lost when it was hit by another jet. No F15 have been lost in combat.

The F15EX is specifically a gun bus for F22s and F35s. They spot targets and remain hidden, while the F15EX launches masses of missiles at target lit by stealth fighters. Makes sense to me.

Boeing should not get credit for the F-15 since it didn’t design or develop the aircraft. They inherited the design when taking over McDonnell Douglas and then developed later versions but the original design was created by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation.

I remember reading that it would be relatively cheap because other countries have paid for its development. As is usual with American arms sales, it's turned out to be more expensive than the F-35!

I was in the Air force when the C and D model 15's were still pretty new. The EX or even the E are NOT the same as the older fighters. The tech. and armament they have today is the reason this plane is and will remain one of our air superiority fighter for years to come. A museum piece? Only if they were not upgraded to the plane it is now. I still believe they should have did all this as the Silent Eagle.
