I started learning about Everest 5 years ago, and I became deeply fascinated ever since, learning about all the deaths up there, the lengths people push to, but something about it just calls to me, something about the extreme conditions, the danger and all the deaths makes me wanna tackle the fear and face the challenge, I wanna have a chance to stand up there one day. I’m 18 now, and I really hope to start off with something small and work my way up over the course of around 10 years or so and really get some experience before attempting such an adventure. It’s become a dream of mine to accomplish. Your video was very inspiring and informative.

I'm 22 and live in NH. Have been hiking for over a decade because of boy socuts. I have hiked all 48 4000 footers in the White Mountains during the spring/summer/fall and a couple during winter but no real mountaineering experience. I have always been fascinated with Everest and interested in climbing it since I was about 11. I hope one day to make it a reality. Next Winter I am going to take a beginner mountaineering course through Synott guides to get started. They also offer guided expeditions up Mt. Washington.

Gonna start my journey in by hiking in the white mountains this summer. Then take a mountaineering course in the winter. I’m super excited I’ve been extremely fascinated with mountaineering lately. Thanks for the info!

I’ve always liked the thought of it but never done it so far. Hiked low mountains (2000 or so ft) on steep trails but that’s about it. Even that though it felt like a challenging achievement compared to anything else I do and it made me want to do more of the same but bigger. Watched 14 Peaks which I absolutely loved and I’m not likely to ever do an 8000m or anything, but just more things that are the biggest challenge to ME, whatever they are… would be awesome to be in the snowline though as I’m moving back to New Zealand. Thanks, great video!…

I think it’s important to understand that you don’t need to travel to the corners of the globe to find adventure. I’ve had amazing experiences hiking and climbing in the white mtns of New Hampshire. 3 hours from my house.

I am so glad that you have this channel. The info that you offer. I live in SoCal and am a hiker, not a mountaineerer (if that's a term) I've gone up to Mt San Jacinto, Big bear, Baden Powell, the list goes on. This past year I hiked from Mexico to the Sierra. I went down close to a snow bridge in the sludge in 2/19 self arresting, barely. I've found myself with microspikes on ice and they slid like they were ice skates. A couple of days ago a hiker died in Taquits peak area of San Jacinto, 2 years ago someone else did. I think I have learned to keep my ego at bay and know when to turn around. 2019 a couple of hikers made national news because they were lost going up to Cucamonga peak in the San Gabriels we were there a week prior and turned around. This stuff is no joke. You are talking about Denali and Everest. OMG, this message needs to go out to the thru hikers and weekend warriors so to speak. Not to think that it's a walk in park.

This video was perfect for showing the basic approach to starting mountaineering. I just moved to Colorado and have become enamored with the idea of summiting many 14'ers, but as someone who has never been on top of a mountain peak it's been a bit intimidating to get started at all.

I'm hoping to find a local club to learn the basics with, but i think ill be waiting until summer is truly underway to nab my first summit. These winter/spring storms can be so harsh.

Thankfully with the wealth of knowledge from accomplished adventurers like yourself this all seems so much more realistic and doable. Plus being able to see where others went wrong or made mistakes teaches us how to be safer while pursuing these sort of things.

I very much appreciate the video!

The White Spider is also a great classic mountaineering book.

I really appreciate your expertise and willingness to share things nobody else does. A video on route finding would be interesting. I frequently find myself staring up at Ben Lomond (Utah version) trying to determine the best way up the west face
