Speeding convictions of 50 km/hr or more over the limit are up 133% over four years in Alberta. This isn’t ok – and it’s time we do something about it.

The speed limits in Calgary are extremely low by comparison to other places such as the UK or the US. In the UK they are looking at increasing motorway limits from 70mph to 80mph. In France trucks have a lower limit than cars and weather is also taken into consideration allowing you to drive faster in dry conditions. I think it's possible that some Calgarians speed more because, in places, they consider the speed limit to be too slow they see that almost everyone ignoring it. In France I noticed a lot less "bunching" of vehicles when the cars limit was 130kph and the trucks limit was 90kph. The trucks seemed almost to "disappear" by comparison to trucks in Canada. As technology improves and Calgarians vote for slower and slower speeds we could see the problems getting worse and thus more dangerous as a result. I think a more professional investigation into setting speed limits in needed to maximize safety.

I think you are reading statistics in a very biased way. Ignoring nearly half of the actual data.

I believe this. I am finding the roads in Calgary are more unsafe due to speeding.
