1986 Ford F700 8.2 Detroit Diesel Cold Start and Walk Around

I’ve had both turbo 8.2’s and non. They both have been good. If you buy turbo late model 8.2 then make sure to get one that was rebuilt in the 90’s with the head bolt remedy. Most trucks built with 8.2”s are designed for 50 mph. Back in the 80, s that was the speed limit. Today people get these 8.2’s and run them wide open to keep up with the pace and wonder why they don’t hold. Thanks Cityiots for keeping these engines cheap and available.

The 8.2L fuel pinchers that were naturally aspirated had a reputation of living longer than the ones that had turbochargers.Because the cylinders in these engines didn't exactly reach the top, only a design flaw.With that said, they had problems with head studs and head gaskets, they couldn't handle the boost of being turbocharged.The head gaskets alone would only be good for 30, 000-40, 000 miles and then had to be changed.That was one of their weak links, and also looking for fuel in the coolant, which would cause overheating and cracking if not dealt with soon enough.

I really like your old truck sir. My dad has GMC 9500 with 8V71 non turbo and I think good price and can be restored and be tough. Nothing like old trucks

Oh just pull the 8.2L Detroit out and drop a Cat 3208 in. Then it becomes an F7000.
