RGH3 Made Easier with the Slim PLL QSB - Overview & Install!

RGH 3.0 has been covered a few times here on the channel from the initial release of it, to tutorials covering all of the compatible motherboards. RGH 3.0 greatly simplifies the hardmodding experience for the Xbox 360, requiring only two wires and a resistor for the Xbox 360 Slim consoles. Element18592, also known by The Mod Shop, created and open sourced a quick solder board shortly after the release of RGH3, to help clean up and make the install process easier for Slim consoles. After doing a few installations using direct wire methods, I finally take the plunge into building some of these QSBs and giving an install a try. Let's see how to use this QSB, install it, and determine just how much easier this really makes the RGH3 process!

It's amazing that he took advice from one of his commenters and actually used the tape method to sort down the scraping away the point.

Suggestion: Don't tin both pads for the smd resistor. Just tin one side, tac your resistor in place, then solder the other side. Great video as usual.

I did rgh3 as my first hardware mod on a console. Its not too bad even without the sponsored stuff here. Just as he said, take your time scratching up the PLL point and you will be fine. Plus coronas don't need the resistor but I went back in and added one after the fact just to be on the safe side

I love this QSB since it lets you change the wires if need be (for Viper V3) and avoids any stress being put on that tiny PLL point. Also the resistor install is a lot neater with it

Element is such a great person. Loved throwing ideas back and forth with him.

I prefer the wire method. Done now nearly 15 consoles. PS: You should use a toothpick for flux instead of the q tip ;) works better

i can see why this is easier for people who are new to soldering, id recommend buying a qsb that already has the resistor if you are new as that could be pretty difficult

Good stuff man. I remember doing soldering of small resistors like that at trade school, we dropped them on the floor so many times and lost them 😅. Trying to solder them in without a microscope is painful, holding them with the correct size tweezers does help

I had a lot of trouble with SMD until I got solder paste and a hot air work station. Total game changer

Oh man... Just attempted this. Trying to solder to the PLL point was a pain using the QSB... I ended up getting annoyed and cutting off that part of the QSB and instead soldering a wire between the PLL point and the resistor on the QSB.... might have been easier to forego the QSB entirely heh

But enough of me complaining! Thank you for posting this video and your other video on how to RGH3 a corona xbox, they were extremely helpful :)

Great video! Ever since my first failed Corona mod about 10 months ago I've tried to RGH a couple of Trinities, and I always had difficulty making the PLL_BYPASS point to hold onto my wires properly(probably a soldering skill issue on my end). Ordered a bunch of these QSBs, as they seem a great way to avoid having any issues soldering up that hard-to-hit via further down the line.

I'd love it if they would release a QSB with JST or similar connectors for reading the NAND. All those wires bunched together makes soldering them a pain. My trinity with RGH2 went well but if I ever have to dump a NAND on another system I'd want QSBs.

I just realized that the outfit your wearing is the same in the animation intro. that is great!

is it just me or does the pico flasher stop working after few consoles

So grateful for your channel, thank you.

Sponsorship! Nice! I feel like Ive wondered about that for your channel before. I always thought "would sponsors be able to support a channel celebrating consile modding and bypassing security?"

Need to try this on my own time it would be a fun Hobby!

I bought a pre-soldered QSB and it bricked my console because the resistor wasn't soldered on properly. I am very new when it comes to soldering and my second go around I was successful instead of trying to solder that tiny resistor on the board, I just spliced a big 10K resistor in a wire and I don't know if this matters but I put solder in the gap where the resistor should have went and it worked for me.

Hey man!! I've been a fan for a while and often refer to your work for multiple things. Recently I tried a corona v3 RGH install and I think I dorked the PLL solder point. I'm not sure it's salvageable. Would I be able to get you a pic and you tell me if I should abandon altogether or not?
