Manchester City are closing in on the appointment of Hugo Viana as their new Director of Football.

He currently fulfils a similar role at Sporting and is set to take over from Txiki Begiristain, who is expected to be stepping down at the end of the season.

This is clearly a brilliant move by Manchester City, bringing in Hugo Viana, who is a key figure for Rúben Amorim successes as a coach (the same way Txiki Begiristain currently is for Pep Guardiola).
So one would expect this is City laying the ground for Ruben Amorim replacing Pep in the coming year.

Hugo Viana was a top talent who I always loved watching as a Geordie! I remember when Bobby Robson signed him and I was gutted when we sold him! He was right footed and we played I’m on the left as we had Kieran Dyer and James Milner who were older and more experienced 😅
