When I was a teenager, I didn't know any different. I went to the pet store, and they had an orange baboon spider there. I asked them if I could hold it. They didn't tell me that this was a spider that was bitey. I opened its container, reached in, and picked it up. It didn't give me a single problem. It crawled hand over hand, I held it for about 5 minutes, as it continued to walk and walk, it was very pretty and I thought it was nice 😁

I'm surprised he was even able to grab an OBT, or even open the lid without it falling on its back after an insane threat posture and hiss! That is one docile OBT.

I have a pet obt and I accidentally free handled it today. I went to transfer it to a new clean container as its old one had a little mold growing and it decided to teleport around the container, on to my hand and up my arm. Before I could realize he was on me he had already darted in to the armpit of my sleeve. Thankfully he chose exploration and not violence as I was able to pull my shirt off and safely place the dude in his new home. God he’s such a gorgeous animal but my blood pressure still hasn’t come down.

It's sad to see tarantulas being forced like this to bite someone, the reason tarantulas like this are so aggressive, and are known to bite is all self-defense. This type of tarantula lives in an area where it's under constant threat, and does not have the specialized hairs to kick at predators. So it has stronger venom and speed to make up for it. Bite doesn't kill. But it'll hurt a lot.
