Rinry was the greatest. These are the most heartfelt videos on the platforms. She's a number one YouTube hero to me. Shall your legacy live on!!

The sound issue is due to needing a resistor between the audio out and the audio signal on the NES-ON-A-CHIP. The weight difference is largely due to the lack of RF shielding.

3:40 The TV is only playing the pure sound of Super Mario Bros.' soundtrack without the FX.

Probably the most helpful video review I've found in the past 5 HOURS of deciding if i want the yobo fc twin or this retro duo THANKS!!!

The age does matter, because it affects how many working consoles are still available to buy.

The price of anything generally is influenced by a balance of both supply and demand. How iconic a product is only really has an influence on the demand.

I've never found a clone console that doesn't distort the music of Super Mario Bros.

Thanks for this amazing review, Rinry! You're very informative about the Retro Duo, and your originality with the little comments for the goomba, for example, is just awesome! I'm from the Netherlands, so I live in a PAL region. But since this game plays most games from any region, I might be purchasing one of these consoles very soon! Thanks again for the review, and please make many more!

I had wondered why these third-party clones had cropped up in the last few years, thanks for pointing out the thing about the patents expiring.

Also check out the RetroTrio, which runs NES, SNES and Sega Genesis games

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on buying it eventually. BTW have you heard of the Retron 5?

Have you seen the Classic Game Room review of the Retron 3? It sounds like the Retron 3 might be the ultimate multi-console you're looking for -- supports NES, SNES and Genesis, allows for you to use the original controllers from any of them (including zappers), and according to CGR, it plays all three systems near-flawlessly (with only minor audio quality issues on the Genesis). Definitely seems like a superior alternative to the Retro Duo.

I had one of those things. The NES cart connector lasted about 4 days before it broke several pins and stopped playing NES games. The place I bought it from said that their was no warranty for the connectors. I own original consoles that are region modded so I do not need it anyway and have desolder many parts from it to use in other electrical projects of mine.

Here in Europe its harder to get NES in Europe (unless your in Britain) We don´t have "retro shops", we don´t have yard sales and in Flea markets you can find only clothes and if you are lucky cheap Tiger electronics clones

It depends on the cartridge itself. Apparently, earlier runs of SMRPG work on the Retro Duo, but the later ones don't.

I love all the extra work put into this video, thanks for the awesomeness. :)

In case anyone is checking this video out in consideration of purchasing a Retro Duo, I will point out that it DOES work with the Super Scope. However, your TV might not as the Super Scope only works on CRT televisions. I've used mine to play Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge without issue.

The weight difference is not because of the plastic. At first i thought it was a joke but sadly not.
Clone consoles condense the whole system on to one chip. Inside there is usually next to nothing just a small main board, a smaller control port board and at the rear a power board.

They emulate the original hardware that's why there is compatibility issues

Emulators are nice, but can't compare to the full experience of buying the cartridges from your local game store, going home, popping them in, and playing them.

There already was a portable Genesis, it was called the Nomad

Definitely one of your most useful reviews to date.  Interesting.  Thanks!
