Retro Sim Racing Wheel Restoration - Trash to Treasure

The Thrustmaster T2 was out of reach for me as a teenager, far too expensive for my pot washing job to afford me, but now, after 25 years of saving up that pot washing money I now own one. If I'm to experience it as new it's going to need some work though, and more than you might think at first glance.

Was not expecting bungee cord and cable ties... That's some low budget hack nonsense but very pleased it works so well

Thrustmaster still does the bungee cord trick in their modern budget wheels, they even have a trademark on it!

"Do anything fun this week?"
"Oh yeah, had a great time watching a dude clean out some foot sweat rust."

My first wheel! So many hours spent on Grand Prix 2 and the original NASCAR Racing. Thanks for the memories.

Nice vid, bet the mark-up on those things was huge. Actual build cost must have been a fraction of retail.

Great job! I love watching youTubers who fix old, broken electronic gear and reuse it. This unit looks to be perfectly useable were it not for the broken parts. There didn't seem to be too many broken parts and apparently, the unit is still recognized by modern operating systems. Well done.

Oh this is so cheap! A mate and I made something similar to this for my Amiga back in the day with a single pot with a weight on it, so you didn't need to mount it to anything. We added some up and down buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, and the fire button on the right side. It worked really well. From looking at this maybe we could have marketed it back in '96!

Don't threaten me with a good time...

I still have my Microsoft Sidewinder wheel and pedals that I bought back in 1999 and they still work. Drove a lot Grand Prix Legends with it.

Excellent. It was great seeing a peripheral getting the RMC treatment.

RMC: “Some may think it’s completely insane to spend this much time repairing this…” Me: “Hmm, I’d have clear coated that base plate, and maybe sent the brackets off for chrome plating” 😁

I can't thank you enough for your Philips Flyback repair video. It saved my monitor.
I know it is not related with this video, but I wanted to say.

It’s always worth spending money on something that gives you childhood memories, as those memories are priceless unlocking those emotional connections from years gone by. Another brilliant video, Thankyou

It’s the size of my entire desk! What a simulator. Could see building a car-like arcade cabinet to house it.

Aaaah the Nostalgia! I had the Grand Prix version of this with the paddles instead of pedals. I used to play 'Screamer 2' with its banging sound track.

Very nice relaxing video to watch. I love watching restoration videos of older hardware.

How cool that you finally got this controller. I'm a musician and have purchased old obsolete keyboard gear that I dreamed of owning back in the 70s. Much soldering and many capacitors later I have my dream gear.

Man, I almost cried. So many memories. I had one only by the year 2003 (and had this same filthy appearance). When it was launched I went to the shop to look and dream with it (I Brazil it costed 20x times more kkk).
