Thank you. I'm so tired of getting a youtube short of someone's graffiti and seeing people in the comments calling them toy and just ripping on them. I really wish more people would just help each other out. Back in the day, we didn't have YouTube or reddit to be able to talk to other writers from around the world and share tips. You had to learn that shit on your own or have a friend that teaches you. No one is gonna take away your limelight. They aren't gonna ruin the culture. Calm down, and give a fellow writer some tips if they need it. In the wise words of Tommy Wiseau: "If a lot of people love each other, the world would be a better place to live." I get a little sad thinking about how many people might've given up completely on graff just because some kid was insecure and ripped on them enough to make them want to quit.

A graffiti toy learns then admits he is a toy, for which he learns about himself and makes himself better by practicing and researching. Also toys go over older writers.

The hip hop clothing thing was always a thing in graffiti. When I was writing on freight trains in the early 90’s I ignored that nonsense and wore tactical / military clothing and wore high top hiking boots that I could still run in (tactical boots weren’t a thing yet).
Have fun breaking your ankle running through a field in a train yard in the middle of the night in your little Jordon 1’s.

This one dude joined me while i just began painting and he kept bashing me and grabbing my cans so he could do hit himself like 💀 he kept calling me toy and shit while i told him several times i just began painting.. while other graffiti artist kept helping and supporting me. Sometimes the graffiti community can be so toxic and mean while you can help others out instead of bashing them

But I don't go about all that Bullshit of tagging private property and snitching. I usually just try to lay low and figure out my style before I start doing bigger and better stuff.

I haven't tagged since I was 11-13 back when I was in my seriously troubled and rebellious years haha, now I'm 21 studying in university but watching people tag felt awfully nostalgic.

definitely the hip hop clothing thing. most of the writers i know in my area are into predominately punk and metal music and, for the most part, dress like it. everyone i've seen SUDDENLY get into graffiti also SUDDENLY look like an extra on a flava flav music video shoot. and if you're into keeping your sneakers super clean you're in the wrong art scene 🤣🤣

I think adapting a street clothing style and telling everybody that your doing graffiti isn’t just a thing only toys do. I think all beginners (including me back in the time) started to dress like this and tell your friends about your new hobby, because it’s something new and exciting which is not seen that often. I would rather say Toys stay at that level because Beginners learn over the time they progress and get better, that your style or that everybody knows that your doing graffiti, isn’t that important and toys don’t realise that.
