Gold Leader was one of my favourite characters when I saw the movie at a very young age. He still is, the way he's so cool under fire and entirely focused on the task at hand: Staying on target and letting his escort deal with threats.

During Rouge One in the IMAX theater, when I saw Gold Leader appear....I almost lost it. A part of me wanted to yell at the top of my lungs "it's Gold leader from A New I pumped my emotional brakes and just settled for a tear of happiness, clenching my arm rests. Ok I didn't shed a tear, but my eyes did get glossy af, lol.

They could have conceivably gotten away with recasting the pilots and nobody would have knocked them for it. But they didn't and that's real cool.

Fun fact: Gold Two was dubbed by Harry Shearer, the same guy who voices Ned Flanders and Mr. Burns.

The field promotion was so cool. I was a little kid and noticed he gave Gold Leader to Gold 5. I was waiting for Luke to make the shot and Han and Chewie to rescue him. But the sacrifices of Gold and Red Squadrons stayed with me forever.

The OT gave so cool screen time to minor characters like this, That's why we care about Wedge, Gold Leader, Red Leader, or even some of the Imperial Officers like Piett What minor characters do we remember from TFA?
