Then why does a brand new ball which is equally shiny on both sides swing??? For a new ball it all depends on the direction of the seam. The seam is tilted at an angle (say slip or leg slip). Incoming airflow always encounters a smooth surface, and on one side glides on the smooth surface while the seams trips the flow on the other side making it turbulent...that's what creates the boundary layer to separate differently. For slightly old ball conventional swing and reverse swing, I agree with your explanation.
