Karl-Anthony Towns TRADED to the Knicks for Julius Randle!?

The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves just shocked the NBA world by making a swap of Julius Randle, Donte Divincenzo, and a first round pick in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. After the Timberwolves were just in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks and competing with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top seed in the Western Conference, they trade KAT away in favor of Randle and Divincenzo who present interesting fits for a team that feels like it may now lack spacing. Meanwhile, the Knicks add a guy they had been after for years after adding OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges within the past year, putting them right in conversations with the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference title picture. Let's talk about it.

God, I wish Woj and Zach Lowe were still at ESPN to report on this.

Twolves went from top-4 seed lock to potential play in team with major chance at regression because they have cheap ownership and wanted to salary dump KAT. They should’ve ran it back at least one more season.

The Randle fit with Gobert is absolutely awful it doesn’t make sense.

If KAT plays as well as he did the last time he was a 5, this is probably a huge coup for the Knicks. For Minnesota though, I think it’ll be a downgrade, but I’m not generally a Randle believer, so maybe I’m wrong 🤷‍♂️

Idk why most people assume KAT is gonna be great for the Knicks when the Knicks are known for their defense which KAT is a known defensive liability(as a 4 or 5) and Tibs literally only playing starters which KAT was a somewhat injury prone player. This trade is more for Dontedivicenzo cause he a great role player for Minnesota who lacked offense last season not Randle who will probably be benched and be a 6th man for Minnesota when Antman or Naz sits.

Let's be real, Karl Anthony Towns is soft when it matters the most. DiVincenzo is the real difference maker in this trade. I'm sad for Knicks.

As a Wolves fan I'm so disappointed, but as a cavs fan I'm pissed cause now we really can't get passed the knicks

I think the Knicks easily have become the team right next to Boston and OKC as the 3 teams to most likely win it all this year barring injuries

How does this make the knicks terrifying? I feel like everyone's just assuming best case scenario and ignoring the lack of depth, the shift in chemistry, defensive questions with kat and health concerns with kat, mitch and OG.

This trade feels funny for both teams... And it also suck to break out the Villanova lineup

Dame to Bucks happened same exact date last season. Every year there is one major trade right before or during training camp. I remember Butler being one as well.

As a wolves fan it’s sad to see KAT go after last season, but I’m looking forward to see if Randle can be that offensive beast he has flashed at times, and Donte is a great pickup to add even more depth to the Wolves. I think they’ll be about as good as last year, with more salary cap space in the coming years.

Now i am curious about the knicks wing depth, they have Og, Mikal and Hart, they are one injury away from having basically no wings, praying that Pacome and Keita have good seasons

Randle can create his own shot he is just in consistent and in the postseason he is cringe. While I did want the Knicks to run it back with the NOVA group and randle because Mikel was gonna lessen Randles need to be the number two for us, I can understand them taking a big swing. People are talking about KAT that everyone knows in the Minn. offense that lacked spaced because Gobert is trash offensively and everything ran thru ANT, and KAT was basically his only reliable shooter to give him some space. KAT on the Knicks could be great because we could have Brunson, OG Mikel and Deuce all in the lineup at the same time and they all shoot near or at 40% from the 3pt line. KAT's defensive liability could be shielded because the Knicks have arguably the best two wing defenders in the league. imagine this Brunson and KAT playin the pick n roll and KATs man drop in the paint to try and cover Brunson as he plays down hill. KAT is gonna have open threes because OG Mikel and deuce are all knock down and if the big steps up on Brunson then KAT will have a smaller player to feed on down low. The moment help comes KAT swings the ball to an open OG cutting Mikel or open duece. Not the mention Josh hart can do everything but shoot threes on the court and when Mitch gets back we could send him to bench or play him in limited minutes with KAT if defense becomes an issue. I am concerned with KATs postseason play though but because we have three other reliable players for the postseason hopefully that will be enough to cover his issues. For the wolves no one can convince me that the spacing issues y'all had last year is gonna get better with randle and Gobert on the court playing together. y'all did this move to dump salary. Divo will be amazing for Minn. though.

This could defnintely turn out to be a great trade for both teams. It costs the Knicks a lot, but they needed a bigger center option and having the 3 point shooting gravity to go with it is absolutely awesome and can make up a little for losing DiVincenzo, who was amazing last year.
For the Wolves, having Randle as a more dynamic player and not exactly losing the long range as they have Donte now too. Scoring wise, losing KAT wouldn't be great in a trade if it involved only one of these players, but getting both in return is an offensive upgrade for sure.
