You probably know I've commented b4 about the EPIPHONE SG, I purchased the EPIPHONE SG Classic Worn Cherry for $20 cheaper than the Phelam blue, with many of the same appointments. Mine weighed in at 6lb 6 ounces. It has been absolutely nothing short of amazing. I love both finishes, great job on the reaction.

In case you were wondering, Gibson call their headstock the DOVE WING headstock, not open book. I got that directly from the, at the time, CEO and President of Gibson, Henry Juszkiewicz. I used to exchange a lot of messages with him about the Elitist line back in the day because I wanted details about the faded/worn 61 Elitist SG I had. Turned out they only made around 200 of those, but he had no specific numbers or documentation.

I used to play Gibson SG Specials for many years until I came across this Epi, which plays just as good and sounds even better. The only downside is I had to go through a couple of them until I found one that had acceptable fretwork.

Hmm I always wanted a P90 guitar and being a Sabbath fan an SG seems fitting (I have the humbucker TI Signature Epiphone, fantastic guitar sadly discontinued). The candy apple red with some nickel covers for the P90s.... yum yum

I know I've commented on here a hundred times about it, but I really like the Classic SG with p90's in worn inverness green. I feel it's pretty much the same guitar as this one, but with the large batwing pickguard and a great finish. I still haven't gotten my hands on one to see how the neck feels. I guess it's time for another trip to Guitar Center to see if there's one on the wall.

Epis best kept secret. Mine gets more play time than any...I swapped for gibson pups, tonepros bridge and bone nut, transformed this beauty.

I just bought one of these in sparkling burgundy; I haven't tuned it up yet...it came set up supposedly... But, the fingerboard looks and feels really dry so I think I'll oil it before I do tune it . I'm going to need to leave it for a few days for that to settle. The sounds you got were quite nice.

This is my 3rd Epi SG, and my 1st guitar w/p-90s. Thanks for sharing!

One thing that I'm admittedly a bit confused about... Why does the Epiphone SG Special have the bridge P90 in the traditionally "correct" position for this model and the Gibson has it placed noticeably closer to the bridge?
I wonder the reason behind the move.

I got one of these. Same color and all. The switch was intermittent. The dealer sent me another, same guitar. The switch was worse. Sent it back. Replaced switch on the original with Switchcraft switch. Then discovered the 20th fret was dead on 1st string. Not impressed. Some of these SGs are good, others not so much.

I have the Sparkling Burgundy, it is a great guitar and is part of my daily rotation.

Have one of these and I love the pickup tone, the weight, absence of neck dive, and look of the guitar BUT I have some beefs. I have an `06 Epi Les Paul that has been my favorite guitar pretty much since I bought it (and put unpotted Burstbuckers 2 and 3 in it along with a '59 style wiring harness) and that has what I thought was the 60s era "slim" neck. I have a Gibson BFG LP and it has a much chunkier neck, so I thought I knew what to expect when a guitar was described as having the 60s slim neck and that the BFG had more of a 50s neck. Both this guitar and my Epi ES-335 have what I consider to be ridiculously thin necks. It's not really a C shape as much as it is a D shape and the D really flattens out a bit toward the back. I don't hate it to the point of it ruining the guitar for me, but I don't prefer it. Between the beefy BFG Gibson LP, my '06 Epi LP, and this neck, I choose the '06 Epi LP every time.

My next complaint is the frets on this thing. They don't stick out enough to scratch or hurt my hand while playing, but the underside of the frets are sharp and do stand away from the binding in a way that no other Epi (or any other guitar for that matter) I've owned does, and I have owned 6 other Epiphone guitars over the years.

Another problem I had was that the rhythem/treble pickup selector is wired backwards and one of the tone pots will do something weird where it seems that the lowest point in the sweep doesn't provide a solid end to the sweep and will actually feel a bit loose and go past that bottom point and cause it to get stuck at that point until I turn it all the way back up and that somehow pushes something that feels like is releasing whatever was trapping the wiper and even then, I have to turn it back and forth to sort of re-calibrate it. None of these things should be a problem on a $400 guitar. Not really even on a $200 guitar these days.

Trying to find one with strings that are evenly centered on the neck, truss rod cover screws that haven’t been carelessly rammed in sideways, and tuners that have been installed symmetrically is kinda difficult.
