Full Stack Javascript Is It Worth It?

Is becomming a full stack javascript developer worth it? I'm getting this question a lot from beginners. People often think that full stack will earn them more money and that they need to become full stack web developer as soon as possible. They are wrong.

Thank you for the advice. I'm starting to feel really good about about my HTML, CSS, and Javascript fundamentals. I'll keep chugging away on React and challenge myself a bit more with Javascript before I think about jumping into anything else.

Nice video. A few thoughts from my short experience...
I started with React and NodeJS, you know, the classic MERN stack that's so overhyped today.
After that I switched to Angular because companies are much more involved in working with Angular in my country. Now I'm planning to replace NodeJS with Spring for the same reason.

In general, I've worked in or with smaller companies (up to 200 people) and we cherished full stack programmers which were paid significantly more. Older full stack developers I've met generally went to the "Solution architect" types of jobs since they're the ones that generally have a grasp of all the things that are needed for the application to work. Moreover, I've found that (as a frontend developer for the company), I understood higher level backend problems and knew most of the things I needed them to do to make my frontend easier to implement. Whereas I've found that many frontend developers don't know what's happening on the backend and they request things that seem to be simple to implement, but aren't.

Moreover, recently I've been in a situation where my senior frontend developer was so overfocused on the frontend technologies that he didn't want to look at the backend issues we were having on the deployed environment. Because I've deployed multiple applications to the servers and created pipelines, I knew where I needed to look and I managed to help our junior devops :)

In a nutshell, I think that junior/mid full stack developers may know a lot of different things but they will generally be paid less because of their inexperience. Older developers (seniors and leads) may be better if they have full stack understanding, otherwise they may do some architectural mistakes (especially if working without solution architect).

Totally agree. I started studying front-end. At uni I started doing some backend as well, api development, windows, desktop, etc. Work placement was C# and Angular in a huge app, quite stressful. After 3 years working after uni, doing different tech and doing front in some projects, doing back in others, doing full-stack in some others....I feel like I haven't specialised enough, I know enough about everything but I can't say I'm really good at anything in particular.

And I feel when you become very good at something, even if the scope of what you are learning is smaller, you are more valuable for the company you're working with/for.

Having said that, my curiosity took over, I want to know how everything works so yeah xD

I'm currently trying to learn Nestjs backend, just for fun. And - by studying the backend, I begin to better understand how the frontend works

So i have learned html + Css on the way to js and i was thinking its already overwhelming without even starting js so why would i push myself into backend when i can simply take a job with frontend and focus on frontend and the salary its not a big difference between frontend and fullstack am i right?

$8k - average salary in USA, for month? 🤔
tempting - three years of such work - and an apartment on a Golden Visa in Portugal in your pocket
