The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "whoever performs ablution, and performs his ablution perfectly, and then goes to the mosque and finds that the people had finished the prayer (in congregation), Allah will give him a reward like one who prayed in congregation and attended it; The reward of those who prayed in congregation will not be curtailed."

As a new revert, this past Eid, it happened to me. I walked 30 minutes to the Masjid to catch the first prayer. I arrived at 7:00 AM when they were on the last rak'ah. I felt emptiness, but Alhamdulillah, there was a second Eid prayer. And Allah knows our attention.

The fact that he came to the mosque anyway is a great blessing u get to pray to Allah alone and meditate with him its feels amazing may Allah forgive him and grant him jannah and righteous iman

So here is a way to rectify this in case it happens to you. When you are late for friday prayer and you see the imam has finished the prayer. Dont lose hope. Look around to see if anyone else stands up that was also late, if you find someone who does stand up, then you may go to that person, tap them on their right shoulder and this indicates that you are now joining them in prayer. You then stand to their right and pray like normal. That person who you tapped on the shoulder will be the imam for your prayer. This is a practice told to us in a hadith. This method can also be done infinitely, so do it as much as you can, but do try to be on time for prayer.

My dad (May Allah have mercy on his soul) always used to say whenever I miss the opportunity to pray in Jama’a or something like that that’s rewarding he realises it’s a sin he’s recently committed that stopped it from it. From then on he would actually sit down and think okay what did I do that made me miss my Salah in Jama, he said it would usually be backbiting and regretted it so bad. May Allah please with you and have mercy on your soul. The best teacher I ever had❤️
