A80L vs. X90L Sony's Battle at the Mid Range XR clear.

The 83" A80L goes against the 65" X90L. This is a battle of the mid range of Sony's 2023 lineup. In most cases, you'll be able to purchase a larger X90L for the same price as a smaller A80L. This is a classic Oled vs. Led match-up. Both TVs also possess the coveted XR clear processing. Thank you for watching.

Special thanks to the Amazing Jennifer Gala and her second channel, HDR SUPER CHANNEL, for all her amazing work seen within this video.

I prefer the x90l because its colors are closer to reality and respectable

I think we know how this is going to turn out. But I'll cheer for the X90L, still.

The blooming is actually pretty good on the X90L, it's not nearly as bad as the X90K blooming was. Sony did some magic considering how few dimming zones they have. Also the lack of pure whites on the OLED is kind of jarring, it makes it look like it hasn't been calibrated

I prefer the extra shadow detail on my x90L. I also have an oled but sometimes it's just too dark. I love watching my X90L.

Thank you for this great video!! I bought X90L but it is not delivered yet, so I wanted to compare it with and OLED TV just to make sure I made the right purchase, for 2 days I have been searching for a video where I can compare x90L with a Sony OLED Tv and you did it!!!! thank you so much I believe I will stick with my purchase.

The A80L is obviously superior. To get to the 75" size I needed, my budget just couldn't allow for the additional 1k to get the 77" A80L. I'm satisfied with the X90L for the price point.

Love your content. You deserve way more subscribers than you currently have.

I picked up the 83" A80l about 3 weeks ago for my living room with a home theater setup. Its awesome for 4k blu rays and 4k streaming. I don't game on it as i have a dedicated game room. Keep up the good work.

Don’t call the A80L midrange 😉 it’s more expensive than most flagship competitors. And the picture quality is also very premium.

I got a 77” A80J. It’s still a stellar set. Has not let me down but I’m ready for an 83”.

Great video. This helped me solidify my decision to go with the X90L. The A80L does look better in most cases, but for me personally it doesn't justify spending an extra $800 (at the time that I write this the X90L is $1199 and the A80L is $1999 for the 65"). I will wait to get an OLED in the future when they become more affordable. For right now the X90L brings the most value to the table, in my opinion of course.

Thank you Brian for this comparison. Your video came just in time! Couple weeks ago i've ordered the 85X90L from abroad and it cost me about 2100$ with taxes and shipping. I live in Russia. I was choosing between 83A90J/65X95K/85X90L. And after watching this video, i see i did the right choice. X90L is definitely best for its price. OLEDs are undoubtedly great, MicroLEDs are good too, but the price.. it is twice (or more) expensive. For me it doesn't look twice (or more) better. So thanks again for your content. Liked and subscribed.

I bought a 65" A80. Coming soon. My space can be light or dark. I can pretty much control that. I'll give a report, especially regarding this brightness question. In few weeks.

Hello Brian thanks for this asome comparison video! Due to my budget I won’t get the A80l at 77”. It’s just a little out of my price range so I’m getting the 85” x90l for $2331.99 tax included, brand new. It has a discount of $600! Can’t wait to get it in my living room.

The A80L is 50% more than the X90L. So not really both in the same convo. I went with the X90CL for my living room as both price and longevity are (likely) better. I don't have any worries about "burn in" with constant family tv watching.
For a future screen for my eventual theater room, I'll look to whatever OLED tech is available then.

Brian - Happy New Year -- thank you so much for this well produced video. This helped me consider an A80L for an in-home audition, after first debuting an X90L in my home (65", in both cases). Your careful comparison over a variety of conditions showed me aspects of both televisions that were new to me. The X90L is a fantastic option, and actually has impressive in-person visual impact that doesn't 100% come across in this video (or others, either). Also, as mentioned by yourself and others, the OLED A80L shows whites far more accurately than some sources would have a buyer believe (I have seen competitive reviewers mention the A80L may not display red tones well, and I can personally attest that reds are vivid and bright). Having experimented with both 55" and 65" at moderate (6-8') viewing distances, I would certainly argue that a larger display may be more impactful than incremental improvements in image, if a potential buyer has the wall space. Definitely a must-audition both of these choices for anyone on the fence for either Sony option here, to identify whether the qualities and cost balance to their benefit. Great work, all around. Best regards, and wishing you increasing channel success -- a.

Love this review.I was just looking at the same two tvs.Couple of questions.
will be on from 6 in the morning to 10 at night 7 days a week.Any burn in issue with this unit with the tv being on this long and for so long a time ?
Is it worth the extra money on both units for BEST BUY to come out and calibrate the tv ?
Thanks again for the great review.

Call me crazy but I much prefer the X90L look here. It just looks far more natural to me. More saturation doesn't mean better in my humble opinion. I agree with you in regard to gaming, the OLED is just way better there. The only way I agree that burn in isn't a consideration is when one is perfectly fine with repurchasing a new TV when/if burn in occurs. I replaced my last LED TV after 13 years. I simply don't trust an OLED to last me that long. I know there is a camp that drops a few grand every few years on a new TV, for those I can definitely see how burn in isn't a concern whatsoever.
