I'm on my third Sony. My latest is the 85" X90L my previous one is a 65" equivalent one. My other one is a 55" 3D. The first two I mentioned are fantastic TV'S!! The 55" is great and I have now had it for 14 years and it still plays like it's brand new! I buy Sony for quality and longevity.

Thanks Tech Steve, for me I prefer punchiness over color accuracy. It's the TCL for me.

I hope this helps answer questions to those considering between the 85QM8, 85U8K, 85X90CL, and even the 77S90C. I started back in July with the 85QM8, and I loved the contrast, brightness, and vibrant colors. Hated the horrible streaming upscaling capability that literally made certain content like MLB game unwatchable because it couldn't even make the face of the hitters recognizable. Also, poor EOTF would overblow certqim bright images to the point that all details were lost, so I returned it one month later.

Tried the 77S90C, better than 85QM8 at everything, except brightness during day watching and SIZE, I didnt think the 8" drop was going to be that noticeable, but it was....and currently that dont think its worth paying 2-3X the price for an 83" oled.

I currently have both the 85U8K and the 85X90CL side by side agaisnt by wifes wishes 😂. Like most people, I felt cheated by the 85X90CL with a FALD display and probably only 150 dimming zones at best...So I had to try to the 85U8K Mini-LED with 1300 dimming zones, 1500 NITS, QLED, and an 8.5 rating from RTINGS.COM.

After a couple of days of playing with them side by side, (not hearsay), for the purpose os STREAMING only, I have NOT tried gaming, the X90CL has better colors, including blacks period!

Side by side, same content, same image, the colors of the 85U8K are dull/washed out in EVERY mode because of the way Hisense is choosing to present the colors this year. FYI, FOMO, along with other youtubers and even others in the comments, had mentioned that, but I guess I'm a bit stubborn and refused to 100% believe it😅.

I'm not a professional calibrator, but I have some experience with tweaking tv settings...I mean come on, this year alone this is the 4th tv since July chasing my best picture quality valueed tv 😁, since I probably wont upgrade again for another 3-5 years I hope.

I have never owned a SONY until the 85X90CL, I used to think that they were overpriced for what you were getting, and based on reviews from youtubers and RTINGS.COM, they were not worth it imo.

Based on the fact that the clarity is much better in most content on the X90CL over the U8K, dont believe me? Try streaming Darkwing Duck from Disney plus side by side 😆, also what's with the dullness of the U8Ks colors including blacks 🤦🏽‍♂️, and yes, im also comparing them wot the QM8 and the S90C...The 85U8K is sadly going back...I had such high hope for it considering I waited forever to get my hands on the 85U8K.

I hope that answers some of your questions. But if in doubt or curious like I was, order both and put them side by side like I did 👋.

Awesome video. I'm a TCL fan but based on personal experience. I don't think the quality is just there yet longterm having returned two TCL's (Q6 and Q7) due to defective panels within 30 days of ownership. This hassle led me to buy a Sony X85K and I'm very pleased.

Just bought the 85” TCL QM8 for my guest bedroom, can’t wait!

You should be able to adjust the settings on the Sony better and when you do this the Sony clearness, motion processing, details and quality should be a a lot better than the TCL. Just my opinion.

Great video! I have the 75” X90L. With some adjustments, the brightness is fantastic and I still get the details other TVs lose.

Could you not reduce the saturation on the TCL to get the more natural look?

Great video, easy sub. I liked how even handed it was and it really highlighted which tv is for which type of viewer as the comments clearly show. Much thanks for the help in making my decision.

Recently bought a Hisense but after 40 days it crapped out. Bought a TCL 6 series 65" but it also crapped out. I'm currently shopping Sony or Samsung. I can't deny the great features of the Hisense and TCL but the quality is just not there hence the cheap budget pricing.

Great review but looking at the footage, the Sony looks really dim in comparison and I do wonder if it's just the camera making it look dim. @3:53 The flamingoes are nearly crushed on the Sony whereas they look really bright on the QM8.

However @14:51, the falcon is brighter on the X90L which is strange.

Thanks for the great review man! It’s really appreciated.
The first thing that I noticed whilst watching the review was that the screen on the Sony looked considerably darker than the TCL. So much so, that it was the only thing I could focus on.

I got TCL's first mini led TV like 4 or so years ago. It's amazing, but it came out RIGHT before Earc became a thing. Might have to check out this QM8

At 7:09 the discussion is about the detail in the distance being sharper on the Sony (which I'm not sure I'm actually seeing) but what IS immediately noticeable is how the grass on the Sony looks to all be very close in color while the TCL's grass shows clear variation in the different lengths. The Sony also has better shadow detail in the shade of the closer trees.

I have the 85 inch QM8. My only complaint is that HDR 10 is much better than Dolby Vision on this TV. Also, upscaling is just okay.

Great review and I'm tempted by the Sony as we need a replacement for our 10yr old Panasonic plasma tv. However, our room has lots of windows and is very bright which caused reflection issues when watching the plasma during the day. So, is the Sony still a good option?

For those who don't have enough space for a 65" there isn't a decision to make since the QM8 starts at 65"

@Tech Steve
Thank you, great video. But damn... I would have loved to hear your OWN PERCEPTION of the viewing angle. You camera showed us but sometimes the personal experience is not that bad or good as the "numbers" or camera tell. How did you percieve the viewing angles? Acceptable at 45 degrees? Or did you think it was just bad, all washed out quikly already by a few degrees?

Keep up the good work!
