It is recommended if you want to protect your technologies. I used it with a customer who sells his machines all over the world and is afraid his machines will be copied.

Starting with version 1.12 the HMI does not have to restart (adjustable). The user administration is done in the HMI server. As I said, it is not so cool for the end user. I cannot claim that this approach is FDA compliant. Probably you have to write a server extension, which is not so easy. It will be more difficult to achieve compliance.

Do you know if it is possible to change the permissions of a symbol or user control during run time? Our current HMI application gives the user the ability to edit each symbol user rights individually, so for example, if I set a button to allow access from groups 1-3 but the end user wants to then change that once they have the equipment to group 4. Is this possible?
