Wings of Fire is Just a Silly Series Meant for Kids.

"Children's series are the best place for serious topics, for it is only in their innocence that we can begin to explore what is truly important," - an author I've been trying to remember the name of for like two hours now.

On the surface, everything seems like a silly adventure, but underneath there's actually some really deep moments, themes, and questions for readers to consider - just one of the many reasons I love it!

Here are all the cool people that made this video possible:

Don’t forget the attempts of genocide that have just been a thing throughout the entire series, with only sparse examples of attempting to stop the murders until recently!

I always found it pondering that most of the gruesome deaths happen to only the few dragons that don’t have red blood…

My bf’s little cousin just starting reading it. With his mom. She chose the series. I gave her a heads up, using the phrase “mind controlled disembowelment” and she said that was fine, kids gotta learn someday. 😂

Darkstalker was definitely the most child friendly with a fun father-son bond!! 🥰🥰🥰

WoF is a peffect example of why the G in PG stands for Guidance.
Kids have a lot more strength than we usually give them credit for, but they deffidently NEED to have that context.
Peril is an example of just how wrong that can go.
Its not so much that she killed dozens of dragons, more so its nobody gave her the frame of reference for why its wrong until Clay showed up. Its why she's so childlike despite being older than the adult DoD.
Yet the world has unavoidable dark elements to it. Sheltering kids sets them up to not know how to deal with hardship as adults, which is just as problamatic.

That asside, absolute perfect video of dark humor, holy shit.

Okay it doesn’t start off that bad. The prologue just opens with Queen Burn killing Hvitur and the shattering of an egg with an about to hatch child- FUCK

Here’s a reason I think wings of fire SHOULD be for kids.
At this age, kids are starting to learn that the world actually isn’t very clean and has some bad people and not everyone can be trusted. It shows very important lessons, and I feel like for maybe certain personalities, this series might not be great, but for most it’s awesome!

11. Tribe surprising a tribe that mirrors real life society

13. Exile
14. Isolationism
15. Questioning where the cycle of war and conflict ends.

Remembering this kid series was great, even the orca statue was great, so beautiful, so elegant, so well at shattering eggs with living babies inside - oh that was quick.

You know, I've never thought about the fact that Tsunami killed her dad to send a message to Queen Scarlet... I was focused on Fjord's gruesome death throughout the entire book and regarded Gill's dead as just a dragon dying but it's arguably darker than Fjord's face getting melted off

“It’s just gonna be another goofy episode with silly jokes for kids.”
Alex Hirsch, a fellow creator of a “kids” thing with your average “IVE GOT SOME CHILDREN I NEED TO MAKE INTO CORPSES” on top.

I'm an adult and Darkstalker's ending still traumatized me. I can't imagine the nightmares the kids reading must have had. Tui really put the "graphic" in "target demographic" didn't she

I've always felt this way with Warriorcats as well. Theres some grusome stuff in the comics here and there and then theres also countless segments in the books that could fuel childrens nightmares like some giant pile of cat and rodent bones with blood seeping out from underneath in what appears to be a nightmarish vision. Or slitting open a powerful leader from his chin to tail only for him to die nine gruesome times in a row. Love walking into the kids section for these books.

I remember reading the sea kingdom book first, then the graphic novel. They really captured that look on little Anemone's face as the electricity arced from the pool as she realized she had just committed her first murder.

Wings of Fire is basically the book version of Undertale: It's a story with fictional creature characters that at first glance, looks fine for kids, but in reality, it has stuff like violence, romance, and other stuff. But to older audiences, it's a great story, as it has a great diversity of characters, and deals with serious issues you might face in real life.

I hate when people say: "You read WoF? That's so childish!"

I vividly remember reading these books at like a 5th grader. God I loved this series but holy crap the fact that the first book opened up with the death of a dragon about to be born and then killed it shocking

Yep when I first got into this series I WASN'T expecting it to be so violent, even my parents were somewhat stunned at the violence
