For Aristotle, just asking Plato a question would wreck him.

It’s not fair to considered any of these two gigant thinkers completely out context, that is to say, pondering their ideas from our modern perspective. The debate is helpful because of the different Plato’s and Aristotle’s ideas it presents, but the discussion should had been centered in close relation with what Ancient Greece people’s problems, concerns, and ways of approaching them. Pondering the past from our modern perspective is not only unfair, it also ignore its wisdom and the fact of being previous necessary conditions that have brought us up to to where we are today

The idea of giving a medal of « greatest philosopher” is utterly stupid.
Plato was the first to be obsessed by ideas and to create ideologies (he preferred ideas to reality and emotions) - in my opinion he said mostly unwise things...
I know Aristotle less but he was a pragmatist and a logician and believed in reality.

Plato clearly had a lot to say about politics, but he was a bit limited in scope, because that was all that mattered to him. Aristotle, on the other hand, had myriad interests and had lots of things to say about many areas of human endeavor, from plants and animals to ethics and logic, and even planets.

Regardless, neither one should be castigated for not having 21st century enlightened values.

You can tell what side of the debate one is on when they use "elitist" like its a bad thing. We are all elitists, even if Edith Hall won't admit to it. Don't we all want an elite pilot flying our plane? Don't we want an elite surgeon cutting us open? What about a plumber or an electrician--don't we all want elite plumbers and electricians working on our homes?
