Donovan has been my lifetime heart throb. I have seen him in concert 4 times and I feel blessed. He is a kind and loving soul.

As a growing up gay kid, this song had a great impact upon me - was released in '65 - I was 15

no bad tracks on this album- or all of Donovan's albums . His writing and guitar playing are simply beautiful and genius

Donovan was truly a great artist in the 1960’s. He pretty much faded as a superstar after that but he has and continues to make music. Catch the Wind was his big hit but this was always my favorite. I was just a 14 year old when this came out but it made a bid impression on me. Every time I hear it, I reflect back on those days and where.

To Try For The Sun
Donovan
Album Fairytale

We stood in the windy city
The gypsy boy and I
We slept on the breeze in the midnight
With the rain droppin' tears in our eyes
And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done?
I dare a man to say I'm too young
For I'm going to try for the sun

We huddled in a derelict building
And when he thought I was asleep
He laid his poor coat round my shoulder
And shivered there beside me in a heap
And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done?
I dare a man to say I'm too young
For I'm going to try for the sun

We sang and cracked the sky with laughter
Our breath turned to mist in the cold
Our years put together count to thirty
But our eyes told the dawn we were old
And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done ?
I dare a man to say I'm too young
For I'm going to try for the sun

Mirror, mirror, hanging in the sky
Won't you look down what's happening here below?
I stand here singing to the flowers
So very few people really know
And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done?
I dare a man to say I'm too young
For I'm going to try for the sun

We stood in the windy city
The gypsy boy and I
We slept on the breeze in the midnight
With the rain droppin' tears in our eyes
And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done ?
I dare a man to say I'm too young
For I'm going to try for the sun

Heard this song first at 15 and have never forgotten it. This morning I woke up hearing it in my dream.

I never will forget the time I first heard early Donovan . . . what a transcendent breath of fresh air . . . . His music changed my life.

Covered by The Leaves, Susan Keely and Lindsey Buckingham. So, I put all 4 in my Donovan playlist. Thanks for the upload!

Love Donovan's early acoustic material. This and Ballad of Geraldine stand out for me but I love the whole 60's folk vibe.
