You mention that "file>new" should go to the template window.. but RIGHT below it is "File>New from Template".

Great update. Just downloaded. The copy nodes feature is very powerful for creating complex shapes like logos. And the bucket tool allows you to fill spaces with vector shapes - not as accurate as Illustrator Live Paint tool - but heck it's FREE!
