LIVE: SpaceX Launches the Fifth Flight Test of Its Starship From Boca Chica
SpaceX's Starship test launch, known as Starship Flight 5, is set for Sunday, Oct. 13, at 8 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT) from the company's Starbase facility near Boca Chica Beach in Texas. This test flight seeks to improve rocket technology with a groundbreaking maneuver. The test aims to use launch tower's "chopstick" arms to catch the returning first-stage booster. The Starship megarocket's massive booster will lift the moon lander for NASA's Artemis 3 mission, which aims to land astronauts on the moon by 2026.
The main objectives for Starship's fifth test include attempting "the first ever return to launch site and catch of the Super Heavy booster, and another Starship reentry and landing burn, aiming for an on-target splashdown of Starship in the Indian Ocean," according to a statement from SpaceX.
