My mom always says, “people don’t care about what you look like, they care about what they look like”…so yes. We are hard on ourselves when others don’t even notice it

I totally can relate to this topic. I have always said that I just wasn’t photogenic. Some people, I know who they are, just can’t take a bad photo! Me, I have to take about 30 selfies to get maybe one decent one. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I hardly ever like how I look in pictures unless at least 5 years have gone by. Then all of a sudden, 'I wish I still looked like that'.

Dr this is an issue I always have, I look fabulous in the mirror and in photos I am so disappointed ☹️ thank you!

OMG! Someone finally addressed this! It is a "thing"! I thought it was my own perception and had me questioning my eyesight.

That's why I don't take pictures of myself.
I look horrible in them. But I'd rather look better in reality than in pictures anyway.🤷

I went to see a dermatologist about some small bumps on my face that bothered me. He said, “I’m a derm who looks at faces all day and didn’t even notice it until you said something so I think it’s not worth worrying about. You look fine.” It helped me not be so critical of myself to know a professional thought my skin looked fine.

Love the content- always. As a retired photographer, I know that lighting and angle make all the difference.

I honestly believe that the less we stress about mirrors and cameras the better we look. Try to remember that if you’re continuously looking for flaws and imperfections your subconscious is powerful enough to give you what you want. So believe in your beauty and that’s what you will see. So will everyone else! P.S. A little confidence trick that I use is to write HELLO GORGEOUS across my bathroom mirror in red lipstick. A little self love makes you feel beautiful inside and out!🌹

This is so helpful. I am forever wondering how i looked fine in the mirror and horrible in pictures hahaha I was starting to think I had a magic mirror lying to me and the camera was the reality … whew that’s a relief 😊

This is one reason why I think it's not always wrong to tweak a pic. The camera absolutely hates me, lol! I'm consistently asking my family, "Do I really look like that! :O" Why not fix a picture to reflect you more realistically? I know it goes too far with some, though, but that's their business, I suppose.

Yes!! So happy you said this! I think the reason why I'm so hard on myself is because I hate the way I look in pictures, I also work in 2 gyms, lots of mirrors with odd lighting! Sometimes I think I look fine, and other times I feel like I've aged over night! Lol! I think I look good in my home mirror though! Don't know that any of us really know what we really look like.

Thank you for sharing this thought, made me feel better. 😊

Wonderful video, Dr. Rajani. Yes, lighting is probably the most important thing in a photograph, and being a model 50+ years ago, that was one of the things taught to us. Never stand underneath an overhead pin light, which throws unflattering shadows onto the face. Direct sunlight is also difficult and very harsh in photographs. Even flash photography, unless that flash has a filter over it as professional cameras do, cast a glare onto one’s face. I will finish by saying that shooting a photo into sunlight, with the subject in front of a door, window, etc., is probably the very worst lighting for a photo. Where is the best? Probably outside in the sunlight, but when the sun is either behind the photographer or straight above. As always, your video is spot on, and thank you for making us feel better about ourselves and our imperfections. Finally, not everyone loves being photographed. We need to feel and look our best. I just finished a month-long trip on Oceania Marina from Miami to Rome, three weeks on the seas, and spent the final week in Rome before flying back to Palm Beach, Florida, via Atlanta, from Rome. The light in Rome is perhaps like no other in the world, and is so flattering. The sunlight reflecting off the terra cotta and gold colored buildings is, to me, the most flattering light in the world. Thank you for another wonderful and informative video. You’re the best, Doc!

Also, the asymmetry is on the opposite side in a photo. So, if you're smile is slightly crooked it looks REALLY crooked when you see it on the opposite side because you are used to seeing it and don't notice it anymore in the mirror. Great video Doc!!

Thank you for explaining this! It has baffled me for years, sometimes to the point that I won’t let people take pictures of me.

Not trying to brag here, but as you can see by my picture, I look very handsome. In the mirror, I'm even more stunning. In real life, we have take it up several notches because I am smooth, handsome, and charming.

I’ve been told I look better in person than in pictures. This makes me happy Bc I mostly hate all pictures of myself!

This is so true I always look better in mirror than photos and when someone tell me how beautiful I look I always think that they are just too polite😄
