Weed is more weight efficient than both liquor and beer

Glue googly eyes to the front of your back pack to give your backpack a face. This will deter predators from following you. Also get bear bells.

I live in the uk so the only danger while hiking is the second flask of tea running out.

If you are in an area with rattlers, keep in mind they don't always rattle before they strike and they absolutely can strike if not coiled. Almost every rattler I've come across has been laying right in the middle of the trail, or crossing the trail.

I'm gonna ignore the snake one
I'm not stupid, there just aren't any poisonous snakes where I live

Hiking in the rain is the absolute best especially in areas with waterfalls. One of my most memorable was at Robert Treman State Park. No one there besides 3 park workers. I got some beautiful pictures from that day. It sucks being wet and cold but it’s better than being surrounded by loads of people.

Always have a hiking stick, we get tired walking without realizing it and there isn't always a safe spot to sit cause e.g. snakes like hiding by some of them. The stick reduces the fatigue and be leaned on. Some you can tie small items to the top to reduce some weight load. It offers some self defense use too. You also can use it to test hard to walk areas like mud to prevent getting stuck.

I carry in rum + lime juice, water down to taste (or to the availability of water). Of course you don't want to get absolutely toasted on trail, but a stiff drink after a long day of hiking is extremely welcome. And since you're still drinking lots of water, you're pretty much not going to be hungover.

Done all these things ever since I’ve as a scout. I don’t have venomous snakes in my region but we do have some unsavory predators that like to travel between states.

The rattlesnake warning is REAL on the AT. In VA I was stooping to sit on a rock to rest when my wife yelled at me to stop... there was a good sized timber rattler in a Crack in the rock that I didn't see. It was right there, under my ass looking at me.

I live in Canada and there’s only one type of rattlesnake and it’s a bitch.
I love hiking in the rain.
I have lightning repellant spray, and bears orgasm at the very scent of me and then become my Bear Butlers.

Can’t complain 🤷🏻‍♂️

Liquor is a bad recommendation, for drinking anyways. A little would be great for emergency use. Fire accelerant, disinfectant, pain relief(emotional/phys), glass bottle. Beer however has plenty carbohydrates, and can hydrate in moderation.😁

I remember hearing a story of an older couple walking out from the hiking trail and warning a hiking duo coming up of the bear, they didn't care and well only one made it out the other was a meat lump..

Lightning in exposed high elevation is seriously dangerous. Also, getting bit by a venomous snake sux. I got hit by a Copperhead and it was not a great experience. By the time I got to an ER they said no antivenom because I lived long enough. Did I mention it sux? It was in thick bush by a creek and they camo really well. Never saw it under the bushes.

Thanks for the advice, despite most of it being common sense... that most don't really use. Crumbs. Anywho, you have any tips for packing lightly yet remaining prepared? Plan to go hiking sometime! ^^

Rattlesnake?

Or is it a cuddle snake?

With enough mushrooms it can be your friend too
