Tanya and Dave, I have a class “A” 43 foot motor home and have been living in it since 2015 and have found one thing that made all the difference to me was a Simply Safe Alarm system. I put sensors on all my doors and windows (that open more than a few inches) as well as all the storage spaces underneath. I downloaded a GPS APP that gives me the physical address as well as the coordinates and put the physical address into the Simply Safe app whenever I park even if it is only for a few hours. This way the town I am in monitors my safety whenever I turn it on. I also have their smoke detector, motion detector, glass breaking detectors.

You also might want to put reflective strips on you rig like big trucks have and if you park in a truck stop don't park all the way back of the spot. Be visible to trucks backing in next to you. I'm a trucker and sometimes rv's and campers are hard to see when we back in. Be safe folks ❤

Our mechanic keeps trying to talk us into getting a used coach because he hates our old diesel uhaul conversion. But we feel a LOT safer having built our own rig and knowing every inch of it. I think the best thing an RVr can do is learn their rig inside out from the start. Get the manuals, learn the systems, so even if you don't do the repair yourself, you'll know when some repair shop is BSing you. Stay safe! 😃👍🏼

Everyone new to RVing should be required to watch this video. We have been seriously RVing for 24 years and luckily we have only had one major water leak caused by overloading the cabinet where our water filter was located. We had one propane incident when one of us bumped into the stove when the slide was in and accidentally turned the stove on. We immediately recognized the smell and figured out the problem. One must be diligent about safety. Being overweight causes handling issues. Tire pressure, tire wear and tire age are all important. We replace all tires over five years old even if they are not showing that much wear. Our kitchen gear includes one frying pan, one microwaveable dish, one cookie sheet and one tea kettle. We use paper plates with heavier disposable plastic plates under them. We only have four settings of silver wear. Again, most excellent video, thanks for taking the time to post.

Great tips! I want to stress getting a carbon monoxide detector! We almost lost I lives a few years ago in our stationary camper when we had a furnace leak, someone in my head woke me up( divine intervention?) & literally told me " your being poisoned by carbon monoxide, you need to get out" over & over. I was getting the brunt of it in the back bedroom & my husband/ dog were sleeping by the slider that was cracked open, . I literally crawled to my husband & woke him. We got out by the grace of God! The carbon monoxide alarm was on the wall with dead batteries. Lesson learned!!! Thanks to a higher power watching out for us!!

This was so helpful.

My interest is the number one locks throughout the entire van to prevent any breaking an entry

Good tips. We part timed for 4 years & full timing now going on 3 years. We have a TT. When my husband and I are staying in a parking lot... one safety feature we started doing....was to pull our camper stairs inside & and shut the door. A simple cane works to grab the stairs with the hook & then use the hook on the door. Our TT sits up high making it more difficult to get inside. If folks are wondering...well how can I insure safety staying in a strange city. Look up the reviews of the businesses that surround the parking lot. People aren't afraid to say...if it looks a bit sketchy. Safe Travels!❤

No mention of fire extinguishers? I would get at least 2. One for the engine and one for the kitchen. Can use both during a fire, if needed.

Welp, you guys are doing a great job reminding me all the reasons why I shouldn't do it, especially solo. I can't say I ever heard any of those lies, but your true regarding those lies are more what I've figured is going to be the problems and has kept me from actually doing it

I think the one we hear and see the most is the speeding over the tire rating. Thanks for laying these out in a clear, precise order. - Michelle

You gained a subscriber here. ALL valid points. Especially tire speed ratings. Every state ( I live in NM) has speed laws for trailers. In NM it's 65 and I see so many RV's of every type and big rigs blowing past at 70 and over. "I haven't had a problem yet" is the cry of many who have blowouts, wrecks and breakdowns. Add in wheel bearings- waiting until there's a problem is disastrous. I use USA made bearings, changed every year and high performance grease. I don't scrimp when it comes to the wheels, tires, bearings, breaks and checking the trailer's frame welds. As for mold, people fail to realize that propane is a wet fuel- you can have mold in the desert- the fifth wheel that was given to me had it. Two statements I've been handed by people: 1. You don't need a security camera- you live in an RV. Crime is increasing, and yes, I do have and everyone should have a security camera. 2. If you're so scared to live in an RV, move to an apartment. To those people, I remind them that I own what I'm living in and rv lot rent is FAR cheaper than an apartment where I live ($255 rv lotvs $1400 per month for an apt), and moving is much easier for me. I also get the "why don't you have a vehicle that can tow your rv?" I don't need one. I can call a tow truck.

I love your videos! I lived 8 yrs in a 19ft 1976 Dodge Sportsman my with my cat, while working and finishing college. After 10 yrs in a house, I am in now considering returning to roadlife. I recommend always knowing where closest police stations and hospitals are when parking. I since got firearm training and recommend single women be armed legally (take a class, hire a coach). When camping and even at my house, I put out two chairs so people wouldn't know I am alone.

Squirrels have chewed through the hose on the propane tank of my tiny house twice!! Lucky I caught it pretty quick but it drained almost the entire tank! Now that I’m stationary for a while I have pvc pipe covering the hose. Love all the great tips and reminders in this episode!

I use a Tire Pressure Monitoring System on my trailer tires, it gives me the comfort of knowing that they aren't heating up and expanding in pressure.

We never drive our RV, Class A, overweight. My husband always weighs our RV before we leave for a trip.

Great info in this video. I've learned enough, I probably won't buy an RV as I was thinking, but if I rent, I'll be much better prepared. Bless you two.

There's a YouTuber/camper who sets up motion sensor alarms around his truck-camper. With different sounds to indicate where the intruder is.
