My miter saw station plans are just $5!:

Watch the build video for the miter saw station:

I had an old (I mean old!) calculator sitting around and figured it would be much more handy to have it mounted in a convenient place, so I made a holder for it lickity-split.

Fought this idea for YEARS thinking a rolling cart and half-assed supports were good enough... _until_ I built it.
Totally changes the workflow (and amount of dust) in the shop for the better. No more farting around with extension cords- just walk up and make the cut, and OMG the storage.
Trust me guys, you've got the room for this. Kept mine to the plan size in case the saw ever gets upgraded.

Just bought the plans last week, waiting until after christmas to buy a new miter saw and start working on this. Thanks for making this available, John. This will make my shop so much easier to work in with all the storage options!

This station is one of the best work stations i´ve seen, is very well thought. I specially like the place were you put the dust collector, very easy to reach and clean.

agreed 100%. had a 12" slider w/ a mobile base that i never used because it was always such a pain to pull out, set up and use. once i built a dedicated station for it, holy cow what a difference in my workflow. i used granite countertop brackets to make it floating and i put all my long slabs of lumber beneath. added a row of drawers so i could put away screwdrivers, chisels, wrenches and other small things and it's made the shop much cleaner and more organized.

I applaud you efforts to try new things with your videos. I watch all of your channels. I know it has been hard. Keep trying new things. It's fun.

That mini project was really fun to watch. The music was pretty sweet too.

Nice use of the "Open Frame Tenon Saw" ;-) glad to see I'm not the only one who has used this tool!

Ever thought of doing a series of mini projects like that? This one is brilliant.

Agreed John. My current station is not as storage friendly as yours, but suffices for now. It is the second most used tool in the shop, just after the table saw and just before my myriad of routers. It has made a huge improvement in dust control, productivity, and accuracy.

You've stepped up your video production standards, John. Really nicely done. Excellent advice, too.

When I got serious about woodworking one of the first tools I bought was a nice miter saw. I never found the time to build a station for it and I seldom used it because it was a pain to get out and set up. I knew it needed a station, I just didn't have the time. Anyway, I came up with all kinds of ways to do things to keep from using the miter saw. Every once in a while I would use it for certain things where it was worth the trouble. About a year ago I got a sliding table saw with an 8'+ crosscut fence and I don't think I've used the miter saw since. At this point I have no plans to build a miter saw station. Oddly enough I ended up buying a cheaper small sliding miter (8.5" blade but will still cut 2" x 12" at 90 degrees) and putting it on a portable stand just to take outside and break down lumber before bringing it in the shop. I do use that one and prefer it outside because I can clean everything up with a leaf blower and don't have to clean filters and empty a vacuum or dust collector.

What a "hack" job on the calculator holder! I love it!!!

John, even if you did not have such a miter saw, I would still watch your channel with great pleasure. You're invaluable source of ideas!

Sincerely, Alexander

I completely agree that if you have a miter saw that you need a miter saw station. In my previous shop I did not have a station just a dedicated spot for it. But in my new shop a miter saw station will be one of my first projects that I build. Storage is so important for a shop. And this is a great way to store lots of small tools

Only read a few comments and surprised no one mentioned that sanding stick! Great idea! If I ever " build " a shop I would definitely refer back to your video!

Excellent content here. I stumbled across this video by chance! My workshop area is way smaller than yours is. I have a 3' x 7' workbench with my DeWalt miter at the extreme left. I have a vise at the opposite end. Between the vise & the wall I use it as a off feed table for my table saw. If I am ripping long boards, I have to move the miter out of the way, never fails. Obviously you love working with wood. Your cabinets & miter set-up are beautiful & has given me ideas!
Thank you for sharing this... :-)

I've gotten a lot of use out of the fold up stand that came with my older 10" delta sliding saw and it's worked for a lot of stuff. But yeah you are right, the stands and carts a half assed at best when they are a fixture in a shop, and I don't even do anything fancy with mine. I think you sold me with the roll our carts underneath. Got the wheels turning for sure.
