The most qualified candidate should get the position.

Trump did what he wanted with court. Biden is doing what he wants with court. Fair.

It is gravely insulting to any individual to be openly acknowledged as a ‘diversity’ hire.

If Biden assessed the candidates and determined a black woman was the best candidate, then great! That affirms that what these black women have achieved is built upon hard work. _BUT_ coming out beforehand saying that you are just reviewing candidates but have pre-decided to appoint someone based solely on their race and sex _DOES_ taint the appointment. How could it not? It means they didn't have to be the best person, just the best black woman.

We just need to trust Republicans to show their true colors: privileged, rich, white, men... claiming that everything that may chip their privilege discriminates against them. Also... no irony that no problem was raised when a extremely partizan lobbying group got to choose three Supreme Court judges, based on their political views alone.

The Senator is correct! The most qualified candidate should be nominated.

Anyone seen the latest IPSOS poll? According to it, 77% of US citizens say the new justice should be chosen based upon qualifications, not race and gender. Only 23% think the justice must be a black woman.

Biden used the same criteria for picking Harris.
How has that worked out?

Being a black woman won't make them a progressive, choosing based on superficial qualities like sex and skin color, even in favor of them, is identity politics quota filling. Better to appoint a judge that is good for black women, if that happens to BE a black woman, good.
But in that long list of qualifications, I didn't hear a single description of those judges views and whether they would just be another corporate stooge.

Biden has said she is an articulate, clean african american women, who can be just as bright and talented as white justices.

This is what you get when you say you gonna do something just because of somebody's skin color

Biden, like any other President, has the authority to choose.
Take a look at the Republican's actions on selecting who they wanted.
No matter who Biden picks, a lot of Republicans would still speak out against it.
So, go ahead Biden, name the lady and make history for the American people, thank you.

Somehow I doubt he would be as upset if Biden said he was looking for a White Man to fill the vacancy.

It’s not about who’s best for the position, it just about filling Biden’s quotas.

Nothing was closer to unconstitutional than what Mitch did with OBamas last pick

Appoint the individual most qualified to uphold the law. Not someone who fits a certain image.

Sounds like it's the definition of affirmative action.

I think it should be the most qualified candidate. If Biden had just chosen a black woman and not tried to publicize it to check a box this would not be an issue. Now she will be forever known as the check-box appointee.
