Synology DS1019+ NAS Hardware Review

As soon as we have heard about the brand new DS1019+ NAS from Synology, I think it is safe to say that we are excited. Synology has an impressive history of great desktop NAS devices for home and business needs and therefore a brand new 5-bay is always worth checking out. The new Synology 5-bay DS1019+, however, breaks ground on a new kind of 5 HDD/SSD server from Synology, adopting some of the latest innovations of the previous generation, whilst simultaneously changing the format of previous 5 hard drive server they have released previously. In fact, the new Synology DS1019+ bears striking resemblance to the DS918+ released in 2017 later and this has made some people wonder if the DS1019+ is just the same 4-Bay NAS with an extra media bay slapped on the end. It's a fair point and worthy of discussion, so let's find out.

The Synology DS1019+ NAS - Design

The retail box of the Synology DS1019+ is fairly standard, in line with other Synology NAS and although rather understated, gives more than enough protection for your new NAS through transit and onto your desktop. Not to labour the point, but aesthetics in retail packaging is never really been something Synology has had time for, which is an understandable position. Given that most buyers of the DS1019+ will do so online, the need for striking retail boxes to stand out on a shop shelf is rather unnecessary.

Also pci-e should be part of 4 bay as PRO and high cache hdd can do 230+ read and write with only 2 lan its hard to use full speed.

this location is good than review location. Was wondering why synology never use latest procy always old procy. I agree software needs to be optimized for it before plus heat dissipation will be challenge on high core high clock proccy. But they need to find a way to fit latest one not 3-5 year old

Hi, I need an advice,
right now I have DS918+ with 4x4TB (for almost 2 years by now), and I reached a point I need a second "weaker" backup NAS but with far more storage (4x8TB),
I've read your article of DS1019+ vs DS918+ which led me to this video, and now I'm considering if I could get DS1019+, move my current 4 drives there (later maybe add another 4TB), and use my current DS918+ with new four 8TB drives - will such process even work without problems?

Robbie, greetings from Japan! I’m wondering if the DS1019+ would be a Roon “ready” NAS. I know QNAP do say they are Roon ready but I honestly like Synology’s software a lot more (judging testing them at my local electronic’s store). My plan is to keep all my hi-res audio files in a synology NAS and stream them to an Oppo UDP-205 in the living room and a Naim Uniti Atom to the setup in the back of the house. I would like to keep it all wireless if possible though I can do a wired connection if necessary. Would you recommend the DS1019+ for this kind of setup, especially at this price point?

With that extra hdd, do you recommend shr or shr2 ? My guess is that with that extra bay compare to the ds918+, some will switch their shr to shr2 without loosing that much data for the extra security.

Newegg finally has it available for sale! It is 150 bucks more though. Given that I was considering the TerraMaster five bay, I think the wait might have been worth it.

From a non technical perspective, if i install the plex media server on this type of NAS, with a variety of 4k videos, how many users can stream the videos, at the same time? Considering that some of them are using modile platforms, thus transconding is needed.

Would this be better than aQnap Ts-453b for plex? Can't decide. I have a 453pro right now and it's been good to me. Would like more power for plex.

7:19 Can anyone explain to be why Synology doesn't number the bays with numbers or roman numerals? 1-5 would be very helpful, as them all being marked with "I" is incredibly pointless.
