Thank you for saying it. "Over-polishing really isn't a thing but over-stropping is." Finally! Someone who understands. Although, I'm not sure I agree about the "teeth" you're talking about. I've polished edges down to .1µm using diamond lapping film and had zero problems with them becoming "slick" or not "biting". All that happens is that they get better and better at push cutting and maybe less aggressive when "slicing". To me, this is just a difference in application. Axes and saws both cut wood, they just do it in different ways. It doesn't mean that every tooth on a saw shouldn't be sharp AF.

Love the juice, this stuff cuts and polishes faster than any other emulsions I've tried. Diamonds do not clump.

I'm glad you talked about over-stropping. I used to have that problem often because I would get obsessed with making the edge too polished. It would look amazing and was extremely narrow, sharp edges but it would be so smooth that I couldn't get it to have enough bite to slice into paper. That was awhile back. Luckily I've moved on from polished edges to a much more jagged edge with a heavy amount of bite because 95%+ of my actual usage is slicing through tape to open boxes.
Sometimes I also was a little too high and would get in the zone stropping and just continue stropping in one direction for 5 minutes 🤦🏼‍♂️. 🤣😂

Thank you, Sir for the clinic. I'm starting to get pretty good at sharpening in a short time because of all your advice. Dude we're going to have to start calling you Professor Neeve for now on!!!

You explained the motions a lot better than I did but I tried haha, it’s kind of a difficult thing to explain! I find I get my best results going straight up from the tip, I’ll definitely be trying the reverse J though! Good shit brother! 💯👊🏼

This vid has motivated me to get into stropping. So far I’ve only used a stone and called it a day. Thanks!

Bought some Gunny juice, excellent results. Have used 2 other brand emulsions and the Gunny spreads so much better. Thanks for the recommendation Jared. Love your channel and your knife reviews and associated gear for sharpening.

Jared thank you for sharing about Gunny Juice. In January I will be ordering stropping/polishing board when order my 3 canisters of BESS media.

What diamond spray should be used to remove burrs after a 3000 diamond plate?

EXCELLENT video. You nailed the terminology and techniques, and gave superb insight into walking the razor's edge between not enough and too much.

Experimenting with various stropping methods, I tried toothpaste on cardboard and it worked quite well.
I used the non-gel type toothpaste.
Also, as Jared mentions - inexpensive paint sticks/stirrers work good with either a solid stick type compound, or the diamond emulsion...

I make my own stropps... and for people that don't know is "fluffy" is the suede sibe, and "smooth" side is the finished side. When i make mine I use the same leather, just flip the leather over.

Not me looking for the comment about him saying 1 micron instead of 0.1 like the bottle says.

That's funny- without any instruction i instinctively found myself doing the reverse J technique with certain blades- especially ones with a large belly. It seems to help me find my angle somehow and make sure the tip gets appropriate attention.
