Dealing with an Aggressive Fighter - 3 Stage Plan

Coming up against an aggressive fighter can be a bit intimidating. But, armed with the right plan and the ability to stay cool under pressure pretty much any situation can be handled.

The aggressive fighter needs to be put on their back foot. The key is to work up to that stage. Start by giving ground with a fighting retreat. Then, hold your ground with a double arm block and fight back. Finally, you take ground, executing a controlled advance.

Once you put an aggressive fighter on the retreat...the result is in your hands

What about an L-step / angle off instead of retreating in a straight line? I’ve found that most single-minded aggressors will overrun their target and end up out of balance and unprepared to deal with shots coming from their side, if you just take a few steps back BEFORE stepping off-line and pivoting to put them back in line for your power.
