Close Harmony

After discussing the origin of the name of this cleverly titled dance, Colin Hume taught Close Harmony to a roomful of skilled dancers, most of whom had never done the dance before, and the results can be seen here. Of course both caller and dancers had the huge advantage of being inspired in their efforts by the music of Foxfire+, consisting of Karen Axelrod, keyboard; Daron Douglas, violin; and Anna Patton, clarinet. Written in 2012 for Nigel and Celia Close with music also by Colin, the dance, in triple time, is a progessive longways set with the 2s improper. The meet and curtsy figure for the women in the D music is very nice; I have not seen the like in any other dance. –Paul Ross
