At Shaper, we're fusing computers with handheld tools to simplify the process of making. Most innovative woodworking tool I've seen in my lifetime. I was at the point of not wanting to purchase any more tools for the rest of my life, as I have two of three of every other tool made today, until I saw this one. A must have for any woodworking craftsman ! Especially considering the cost and space savings over a conventional CNC machine.

Such an awesome idea. I'm telling you guys right now if you make this for a plasma cutter your market would explode!

This is absolutely amazing, I can see some uses for this that a CNC machine couldn't do! However for the cost I think I'd probably still get a CNC first which would be capable of doing most of what this can...

How does the tool maintain correct bit speed to account for the changing (human produced) feed speed?

So could this tool be used to route the barrel channel or the lock mortise on a longrifle?

So let's say I design something in Adobe Illustrator. I can just ship it to the router as an SVG and then set depths and I'm good to go??? I don't understand if I'm actually capable of using this or not.

The idea is brilliant! Although sticking the tape on the boards of ply seems very impractical. What if one fails to stick the tape exactly perpendicular to the edge? How is the device going to read it? or if there is going to be a on a surface. It seems extremely impractical from production point of view. Also it seems that this tape will have to be ordered in kilometres, hence it will generate additional costs. It would make more sense (If it has to be used at all, but understand that it is the best solution so far) to have this tape, or reusable template that would go only around the edges of the board.
Let say a solid foldable template which after unfolding would have an opening inside to fit a standard size board of ply/mdf/whatever. Cheers! I wouldn't mind a % from this idea! :D
