Cherilyn Yazzie has lived on the Navajo Nation most of her life and relates to the struggles and frustrations of starting a business here. As a founder, farmer, and co-owner of Coffee Pot Farms in Dilkon, Arizona on the Navajo Nation, she knows that most Native entrepreneurs want a good and healthy life for their families and communities. However, how do Native entrepreneurs stay innovative despite the struggles and frustrations? In this video Cherilyn shares her story of starting a small farm with her husband on less than one acre land and her new plans to revitalize a 35-acre field and scale up her vision. Cherilyn is on a mission to battle chronic disease, food insecurity, and help Navajo people reconnect to their ancestors by transforming the Navajo Nation food systems. She accomplishes it all by leveraging strategic partnerships, even with people and organizations one might consider her "competitors." She’ll challenge your thinking on competition and make a case for the importance of networking and making connections to build a viable and lasting business.
