Yes, in a pinch, you can use your battery to weld with, but it shortens the longevity of the battery, and it's always better to unhook your battery from the truck so you don't ruin your charging system in your truck

My mate put in a huge truck alternator in his car, and could weld with that...good for offroad, he welded up another mates trailer hitch, when it snapped...keep them coming pete.

Just fried your alternator's charge circuit diodes. Certainly works to weld with... but diconnect the battery from the truck whenever welding on it, no matter whether using a welder or a battery, as the amperage will blow those diodes. Battery disconnection avoids this.

I worked at a junk yard which gave all the dismantlers their own van to drive around the yard with. This coworker I had would wire up 12 car batteries in series and start welding all sorts of shit in the back of his yard van and take it home. Shit was wild

Wouldn't do this regularly and for permanent welds, but good to know in a situation where you have to weld something outside in the forest where you have no electricity

If you really need to weld something, then it will work, but if you can achieve your destination without welding, then i would not recommend that. Especially with lead-acid battery, it could explode.
