Of course they sleep. I have two goldfish and when they sleep they stay still and sorta float in the water.

I had a really cute fan tail who always took naps. He would take one at the surface and look dead. When his friends touched him he’d wake up and swim somewhere else :3

Been watching your videos for a few now, they are adorable. Process of moving, and I will have some fish again. I had a really nice salt water fish years ago, and I cut a hole in the wall in my livingroom, which adjoined my bedroom. And had my fish tank installed in there!! I loved it! And yep! Lights out!! Dude, I’ve learned more from watching you for 2 months than I’ve learned in the 30+ years of having fish. Like, damn. You should be a teacher. In conclusion, fish sleep a lot like axolotls: they use their frills (or in this case, mouth) to push and circulate water, and in one spot toward the bottom of the tank.

Betta fish do this too. They don't really swim around too much, anyway. So, like goldies, bettas will actually use their mouths to forcefully push water over their gills. Some SHARK species do this too, believe it or not.
