Riding into BACKCOUNTRY IDAHO in search of a CRASHED PLANE..

Показать описание
Every year I ride this single track trail system as the kickoff to the alpine single track season. Deep in the backcountry, this trail hides a secret- the remains of an 80+ year old plane crash...

As snow recedes, backcountry trail systems and the secrets they hold begin to reveal themselves. This one in particular, holds the remains of a plane that crashed during WW2. All eight airmen survived, though three of them left on foot with limited rations and a shotgun to get help. The remaining 5 hid within the wreckage of their plane. After 14 days, the men were rescued.

To this day, the plane wreckage lies where it crashed decades ago.

Enjoy the video!

Viewers- Please keep trail names / coordinates out of the comments. If you do find/visit this trail please be aware its multi use with horseback, bike, & foot traffic.

I rode that trail last year… Ran into a group of girls that do all girl ride once a year… The leader of the group had a chainsaw on her front fork mounted…. It was love at first sight… Lol.

I like your moderate riding pace. It allows your viewers to soak in the scenery much better than someone riding at a fast pace, which unfortunately is what a lot of trail riding motovloggers do.

I've ridden this trail at least two dozen times on dirt bikes, horseback, Fat Cat, and even once on a mountain bike. Survived a horse stampede when the horses spooked over two women hikers with a dog and a blue back pack. Now I'm at the age where "You get a cage when you age!"

Your video is great and really brought back the memories. I think the rocks on the trail have grown with time. Thanks from Eagle, Idaho.

We who are fortunate enough to live in Idaho live in a beautiful place. That footage of the bomber is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Welcome back.

We used to ride to this spot every 4th of July while camping. We used to wade the creek to get to the plane. I haven't been there for years, but I have always wanted to take my wife. Even gutted. It's pretty amazing to see. I had a run-in with a backpacker who told us we were illegally riding a non motorized trail. He blocked the trail and was screaming at the top of his lungs. I politely informed him to check the trail signs at the trailhead and rode off. It was 100% open to motorcycles. The next year, there was a non motorized trail sign placed on the trail to the plane. I'm not sure if it's closed or not today. It was a short hike from where the trail stopped at the creek to cross to the plane. The water was always very deep. Swimming, not wading, was the only way across.

I used to love ripping and tearing on trails like this 40 years ago. Now I'm almost 70 so I stay on more civilized trails where I have room for error. That doesn't mean riding slower. It's just that my T 7 is harder to pick up now.

We rode into this about 20 years ago. Couldnt take the bikes around the lake but hiked over to it. It was pretty picked over even then. Very cool area. Will have to put this on my list to do again with my kid. Thanks for Sharing.

A couple of years ago, we rode out to the lake, then hike out to the plane in our riding gear. It wasn’t the best idea, but being right there and reading the info posted on the plane, their mission and what happened was really cool. We also made it to the old dredge not too far away which was also pretty neat to see.

For everyone complaining, I’d like to share a story that I just told another commenter. The only reason these trails are so nice is because they are upkept by riders like this guy and the trail names aren’t put on blast… there’s this one 4x4 trail near where I went to college called firetower and it’s extremely popular. It has always been popular but at least you needed an high clearance off-road rig for the front and back trail to the summit. Then my 3rd year they gravel paved and filled in the entire frontside trail to where a Subaru could make it up there. People started talking about it a lot and it was packed up there whenever I went. I can sadly tell you that nowadays the firetower at the top is completely trashed by idiots and you can see they bring their guns and paintball guns to plink at the tower. Beer and trash left everywhere, fences cut open. It got so bad that the park service actually gated off the main enterance to the peak and you need to take a EXTREMELY rugged side rout to get through and drive to the summit. People are lazy and don’t like walking 100 feet so that cut back on the traffic a bit.

There’s a reason the people who enjoy these trails don’t blast them online.

I think it would be super neat to see a background video talking about ur gear, bike setup, bags, safety gear, satellite device?, what you pack for 1st aide, what camera setup you are running things like that would be neat to se a video on.

Rode into that - there is a trail on the other side of the lake. Have to walk to the bomber and cross that creek on a log but super cool. Can’t ride exactly to plane

Something about that fender cam really makes your vids a joy to watch. Idk if that was your idea or what, but I think its pretty innovative. I'm not sure I've seen that from other moto vloggers. Its a great angle and adds a lot of interest.. for me anyway. Really nice touch!

A great video Jack. I love the scenery, and the narration. Just left idaho after 11 days, it was nice meeting you in person at the rally. I’ll be back in Idaho August 19th. I can’t wait to ride some more.
